Well, run a repair on it. I've worked with several (as in about 50) real macs and can say that repairing the volume can work wonders for many errors.

You can't repair the disk you are booted on. Boot your install DVD and run Disk Utility to repair your OSX partition.

Nothing needs to be backed up.

Just like when you installed OSX, boot your OSX install DVD into the first page of the installer. Go to the Utilities menu and select Disk Utility just like you did to format your OSX partition. But instead of formatting the partition, run Disk Repair on it, just like you were trying to do above.

Dude - you need to learn about punctuation - commas, periods, colons and semicolons. Even exclamation points!

Prepare a partition on your other hard drive. Use Disk Utility to format it as MacOS Extended Journaled. Use the Disk Utility Restore function to backup your bad 1st partition to your good 2nd partition. Format the bad 1st partition. Reinstall OSX onto the 1st partition. Use Migration Assistant in Utilites folder to move your personal files from the backup on the 2nd partition to your new 1st partition. Delete the 2nd partition.

Most everyone has to patch audio to get it to work. You need to figure out what kind of audio you have so the right procedure (if it exists) can be recommended. Need to find the brand and model of the audio: like Realtek 882 or Sigmatel 9200 or Soundmax 1981
