Funky frank
Hi, i added a PCIe USB3 adapter with venid 0015 devid 1912 to my OSX 10.6.8 system. It's seems to be an NEC upd720202 chipset. I finally found a driver here that's working without system performance problems: http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-help/77864-making-nec-usb-3-0-card-fully-comportable-original-mac-drivers-caldigit-lacie-oyen-5.html#post602026 The only problem is now that my USB3 external harddrive shows up as an USB2 device in the system profiler: Any ideas how to enable full USB3 support on my OSX 10.6.8 system? Thanks!
Riley Freeman
Try benchmarking the drive to see what speeds you get. I'm using the same kext and am pretty sure it's running at the right speeds, just reporting the wrong speed to System Profiler.
Funky frank
Riley Freeman, Iam not sure about this. The benchmark (xbench) shows the following results: dmesg / boot log shows the following message: USBF: 11.931 Endpoint 0x81 of the USB device "My Drive 2.5''" at location 0x200000: converting Bulk MPS from 1024 to 512 (USB 2.0 Spec section 5.8.3) USBF: 11.939 Endpoint 0x2 of the USB device "My Drive 2.5''" at location 0x200000: converting Bulk MPS from 1024 to 512 (USB 2.0 Spec section 5.8.3) What benchmarks do you have using a usb3 external hdd? Riley Freeman
I only have an external usb3 drive dock. And a crappy one too (can't use it at all in Windows, constant disconnects). Here's speed tests with an old WD Caviar drive. It's not a fast disk but the speeds are nearly doubled compared to when connected to the USB 2 port.
Funky frank
Riley Freeman, thanks. I also used an USB2 extension cable which caused a USB2 fallback. Speeds directly connected USB3 using AJA: Write 34 MB/s, Read 87 MB/s
Riley Freeman
Nice. Yeah the extension cable would have been the culprit there speed-wise.
