Everything logs in and works except iMessage

Having a problem with my install of the mavericks gm.  I'm able to log into, and use, FaceTime, iCloud, etc, without issue, but iMessage gives the error "An error occurred during activation. Try again." whenever I try to log in.  I'm running the latest chameleon, and I've made sure the serial number in my smbios is 17 digits.  I've made sure ethernet built in is in my boot plist, and then removed all my network interfaces, deleted the network preference file, restarted and re-added ethernet to make sure it is en0. At this point I'm kind of out of ideas/suggestions I've found on the forums here.  Anything else I'm missing?

Hi, I'm experiencing the same issue using latest Clover. This is what shows up in Console.app when I try to login:

Works for me. Try adding a payment options or changing your Appleid password.

I do have my debit card in there and I even have some apps purchased on MAS... I don't think that's the problem since I can login just fine from both my MacBook Pro (on 10.9 GM too) and my iPhone. I just tried signing out and logging back in on my MBP and I've had no problems whatsoever.

Also, if I enter a wrong password (on my Hackintosh...) it tells me that it's wrong and that I should try again, so I don't think changing my password would help either.

As for my serial, I've generated it in Chameleon Wizard and I've also set my board serial number – I had added some digits and letters to my regular serial in order to make it 17 characters long...

EDIT: I tried changing my password, but the issue still persists...

I'm glad you got it working and thanks for letting me know that it was a problem with the NVRAM. I tried setting a dummy NVRAM variable and guess what, it didn't survive a reboot... After I installed EmuVariableUefi-64.efi, iMessage magically started working. It seems that Clover just had some problems trying to use the NVRAM in my motherboard.

Hi, having the sam problem as @mjgunn: everything works except Messages.app, even FMM is enabled after reboot. I also habe the identityservicesd entries in my logs. Im using Chameleon 2.2. Tried it with Clover as suggested by @dan542, but still no success.

Maybe I'm missing something and maybe someone can help...

Well, you can test whether you have NVRAM working by setting a dummy variable:

sudo nvram dummyvariable=somevalue
Rebooting your machine and checking whether your variable is still set:

nvram -p
In case it is, NVRAM is working fine and thus is not the source of your problem. You can delete the variable by typing:

sudo nvram -d dummyvariable

nvram is working flawlessly. even fmm-mobileme-token-FMM is holding between reboot.

following services are working without a problem:

  • Mail, Contact, Calendars, Reminders, Notes, Safari, Keychain, PhotoStream, Documents & Data (didn't try Back to My Mac)
  • Find My Mac
  • App Store
  • iTunes (Computer is Authorized)
  • FaceTime

EthernetBuiltIn=Yes, Ethernet is en0 and connected

I tried (as suggested in other threads/forums) to change my password and payment information; logged out and logged in into Messages on my MacBook Pro and iPhone, but I still cannot use Messages on my Hackintosh

I'm using Mavericks GM and Macmini6,2 (P-States are working, btw) and I get the same identityservicesd as you.

Update: got it working finally!

  • logged into iMessage -> inactive account
  • leave Messages.app with Preferences open
  • deleted my alternative E-Mail addresses from my Apple ID via appleid.apple.com
  • -> iCloud login window appeared on OSX
  • -> the alternative E-Mail addresses disappeared magically from Preferences window
  • -> after 5 minutes my iMessage account status magically turned from inactive to active  :thumbsup_anim:

Maybe there is a more reproducible solution somewhere out there...

After upgrading from 10.8.5 iMessage worked perfectly.

However, after re-installing mavericks (clean install) iMessage gave me endless trouble.  I tried everything I possibly could and every combination of instructions i found online.  Here is what, just now, ended up working for me.

  • Show hidden files
  • change account password via apple.com (letter, number, capital letter, symbol, x amount of characters)
  • open system preference and remove or inactivate all iCloud accounts and iMessage accounts
  • ensure serial number in smbios is 17 characters long
  • device injection in org.chameleon.boot.plist
  • use FileNVRAM.dylib version 1.3 and put in extra/modules
  • delete nvram.plist in /Extra
  • in Network System preferences remove active network, which should be eth0, and apply changes
  • Ethernet built-in code in org.chameleon.Boot.plist

Now Delete these files in ~Library/Caches:

• Caches/com.apple.Messages
• Caches/com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent

Now Delete these files in Library/Preferences and ~Library/Preferences (if they exist)

• com.apple.iChat

• com.apple.imdsmsrecordstore
• com.apple.imessage
• com.apple.imservice

Now Delete ALL files in /Library/Preferneces/SystemConfiguration

Make sure chameleon is up to date

reboot.

iCloud authorization popped up immediately after i re-added network in sys preferences.  after that it worked.  Hope it helps someone

...be very careful trying this...i lost control of mouse pointer after this "Now Delete ALL files in /Library/Preferneces/SystemConfiguration" ... delete ALL files may be OVERKILL...(but did get a much needed refresher in using only the keyboard to navigate the system) :smoke:
