New 10.8.5 installation question

Hi all!

I have just received a new Samsung 840 pro and I wanted to test and install on it the 10.8.5 that I've just download from the appstore on my MBP , now I'm running fine on 10.7.3 with i7 920, X58-UD5, 4870 Toxic 1GB..

I searched over the net for compatibilities issues and found a thread (old but with no replies) where another user with 4870 toxic edition says that on 10.8 he has screen issues and no QE/CI with that card. Then I found out that a new version of QE_CI exotic patch for 10.8.5 have been released, supporting 48xx series card. Now I will try to set up this new installation using the QE_CI exotic patch even if I don't know if it will work..

If not (and even if it will) I was thinking to buy a new video card like the GTX 760, looking forward to 10.9, the problem is that the 760 is supported only since 10.8.2 but I still have 3 10.6/10.7 osx installations (gaming/design/music).. What could I do for having all the configs running with the new card? Can I leave the 4870 inside and just "add" the new one?

All the best!

Why not take it one step at a time.  Try 10.8.5 with the 4870 and see if it works.  If it doesn't work, then you can think about getting another card.

About having both cards installed simultaneously - I'm thinking that if you remove the drivers for the "other" card from your installations, the card should just sit there and not cause a problem.  By this I mean that in the 10.6/10.7 installations, remove any Nvidia drivers and then the GTX 760 should not be a problem.  And in 10.8/10.9, remove the ATI/AMD drivers so the 4870 doesn't get recognized.

I used a Sapphire 4870 in 10.8.4 without any problems.  I wouldn't expect that 10.8.5 changed that, but I could be wrong.
