lazygizmo
Hi everyone, so im playing around with vmware and i have win xp, mountain lion and mavericks DP, and i am trying to connect my iphone to itunes in the virtual machines but every time i try to connect it says that it failed because the device is in use even though i am not currently using it, is there any way to make it work in the VM? Gringo Vermelho
I have never used VMWare but I'm *guessing* that the USB port you're using is being shared between the host and the virtual machine. Look around in the settings for your virtual machine and see if there's a way to set it up so that the USB port is not shared.

3.14r2
When a virtual machine is running and a USB device is connected, VM should ask you whenever this USB device should be connected to the host computer (the PC/Mac running VM) or the OS running in the VM (XP in your case). If you select the VM, the device should be connected to VM and VM should recognize it. The above scenario works with VMware Fusion and Windows. As to iPhone. I remember trying to use an iPhone as a mobile modem. I couldn't make it work via an USB cable in Windows XP computer (notebook - not VM). But it worked perfectly when connected via Bluetooth. Gringo Vermelho
Try uninstalling all the Apple software you have installed on the host.

MSoK
In Windows do you have iTunes set to fire up when you connect your iPhone? If so turn off this function, as 3.14r2 says when you fire up your VM it will ask you to disconnect from the host and attach to the client, however if iTunes in the host still thinks it has the iPhone attached then this may be causing the issue, even if you have disconnected your iPhone from iTunes on the host, Windows applications have a habit of hanging on to resources long after the application has in theory been closed.
