Voi Posted September 14, 2013 Share Posted September 14, 2013 Ok, so i just want to start this off by saying that i have read all related threads and wiki posts on this this question and i still need some help/advice. Right. So right i currently have Windows 8 already installed on a hard drive and i want to partition the drive and have both OSX and Windows 8 on there. But i've read up that Windows deletes some files that dont allow Chameleon to be able to boot it ( or something remotely like that ), and that in order to get around this you need to use something called Chimera, and to get that i need to boot into OSX with uni/beast and install Chimera through multi/beast So my questions are, firstly, is what i have just detailed about Chimera correct? #2 in order to do that. Would i need to install mb to a usb whilst im still booted into Mac after installing it? or in a virtual machine as i dont have any other macs to do this? If anyone could provide a simple step by step guide i would love that! I've read several posts on it but it doesnt say what to do in detail. Thanks a lot! EDIT: I have just read the rules on talking about things related to spin ofs on the Osx86 etc, so do you guys have any other ways of doing this without using their methods? dkechoi Posted September 15, 2013 Share Posted September 15, 2013 It depends on what you want. My main system is linux, so I use a grub2 to handle the multi booting, linux, win 7, win 8 and osx. I have other pc which has win7 and osx, and main system of that is win 7. So, I use a windows boot manager "easybcd". Basically, a boot manager handles a MBR. If you want to use windows system as a main, then better use "easybcd". But, if you want to use an osx as a main system, then use a chameleon. In this case, you need to reinstall a chameleon every time you reinstall a windows because windows automatically overwritel a MBR. If you want to use a easybcd, you need to manually install a chameleon. A chameleon does three things; (1) MBR install, (2) osx partition install and (3) copy "boot" file into an osx partition. To keep a easybcd in MBR, you should avoid a procedure (1) . I usually do this through virtual machine by importing a raw disk of osx partition, so a mbr is always protected no matter what I do in a virtual machine. dkechoi Posted September 15, 2013 Share Posted September 15, 2013 After finishing an osx install including chameleon, boot into windows from a chameleon menu and install easybcd in order to recover a windows' mbr. Every time windows changes a mbr, you need to reinstall a chameleon. The worst case is you may corrupt a mbr. There is tools for repairing a mbr. So, you may prepare that before installing an osx. Basically, I assume you have a MBR system not UEFI. EDIT: I use a easybcd for a while for dual booting between various windows. vind Posted October 8, 2013 Share Posted October 8, 2013 Hi guys, I'm a beginner and am trying to build my very first dual boot hackintosh. I installed Windows 7 Pro and OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4 on two different hard drives. I wish to make my Windows drive as my main hdd and Windows as my main OS. So I installed EasyBCD but no success in booting OSX thru it. I installed Chameleon wizard on OSX, but that too is not booting independently. In the process I even managed to corrupt my Windows MBR, finally I had to restore it thru Windows installer disc's repair option. Kindly help me guys, to get out of this hitch. Thanks in advance. iFIRE Posted October 8, 2013 Share Posted October 8, 2013 very easy, disconect your disk MAC OS X, repair the boot of your disk windows with DVD Installer , then boot the system, now win is ok, power off your machine. Now disconnect your disk win and connect your MAC OS X Disk, with your USBInstaller boot the system MAC OS X and install the boot loader, test if boot from the disk without the USBINSTALLER, then power of the machine connect the two disks, power the machine and go to the bios and put the disk MAC OS X to boot in the first position, save and reboot. But I'm afraid that your suggestion may make the OSX drive as the main hdd, and the OSX as the main OS, Which exactly I don't want to be the scene. I wish to make win hdd/os the main one. What if I follow your whole procedure, but in bios I keep my win hd as 1st pref, should it work..?? I surely will give a try and update. Thanks again for your concern.
