puckmarin
Any thoughts on the Dell Inspiron i15RV-1333 as a cheap Hackintosh laptop? It seems to be primarily (only?) sold at Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Dell-Black-Matte-15.6-Inspiron-i15RV-1333BLK-Laptop-PC-with-Intel-Core-i3-3227U-Processor-and-Windows-8-Operating-System/25582170 Specs: Intel Core i3-3227U processor 6GB DDR3 SDRAM system memory 500GB SATA hard drive Integrated Intel HD Graphics Nothing super powerful but I'm looking for a laptop that I can dualboot Linux/OS X for development. Thoughts? See anything that would be a huge "Red Flag" as to why I shouldn't get this? Could I even hackintosh it?
freeuser16
It looks pretty good for hackintosh. Of course, you would probably have to replace wifi adapter, as on most of the new notebooks. But it's pretty cheap and easy. The other thing to consider - do you really want to pay additional price for genuine WIndows 8 if you plan to use it for OS X / Linux? I guess same laptop without any OS installed would cost a bit less.
puckmarin
I have a little USB wifi adapter I could use. It's between this or a Acer Chromebook for around $225 that I can just install Ubuntu on.
styrian
I feel quite certain, that acer bios has no white list for wifi cards. You can get one, that works with OSX realy cheap. In the case of Dell I am not sure. Nearly all new Bios are RSA veryfied and therefore make problems with moding them. Fore a 100 bucks more you should get one with an i5. Have fun. TheEnthusiast
The processor, hard drive, and ram aren't the main breaking points for a hackintosh laptop. The key with newer processors is the integrated graphics card, and in this care you're fine. You more have to worry about the touchpad, wifi card, bluetooth, webcam and things of that nature. Obviously you may not need all of these, but they are just points to consider because they influence overall compatibility. Also, the laptop seems to have a 4-cell, 40 watt-hour battery. In other words, you won't have the best battery life.
