XPS 14 + iATKOS ML3U

Recently I've tried to install ML on my XPS 14 using the iATKOS ML3U (UEFI computers).

1. I downloaded the official torrent;

2. Burned [iATKOS_ML3U.dmg] to my USB flash drive using TransMac (as recommended);

3. Set the computer to UEFI enabled, SATA AHCI;

4. Tried with and without Virtualization ON;

5. Secure boot OFF.

The problem is: When I try boot the USB I get stuck in a black screen, I can't even see Apple Logo, Bootloader, nothing. I just turn on the computer and then I only see this black screen.

Any hints?

Well, did you install a bootloader (Chameleon/Clover) to your USB stick?

- Set your BIOS to its default settings
- Execute Disable bit: Enabled
- Limit CPUID Max: Disabled
- Set all cores of the CPU active/enabled
- Virtualization (if exists): Enabled or Disabled, try it.
- Hyper-threading: Enabled
- HPET (High Precision Event Timer/PCH): Enabled
- SATA Mode: AHCI
- Set all the Overclock/Performance/Turbo etc. values to Auto
- Enable UEFI boot

Reason I say to use ML2 is because some branded machines have problems with a custom UEFI boot without editing the instructions within the EFI shell.

iATKOS don't come with Bootloader?

I tried ML2 and it gives me "Missing OS" when BIOS and boot the PXE when UEFI.

Update: http://www.macbreaker.com/2013/01/install-mountain-lion-iatkos-ml2-hackintosh.html

I'll try this: Carbon Copy Cloner + #####

You just need to make sure the bootloader is working. If it gives you a completely black screen before getting any boot options or it says no OS, your BIOS isn't seeing a bootloader.

Is there a way to install bootloader in the USB without Mac OS X? All tutorials I'm finding are saying you need to do stuffs in Mac. ¬¬

Is the XPS14 you talking, L421X?? I have one running ML and I can tell you that it's awesome, only 2 things don't work (the wireless centrino card, i replaced mine, dell has no whitelist) and the Geforce ( I deactivated via DSDT), you have to install USB3.0 drivers from ##### on ur boot stick, and boot with -x -v GraphicsEnabler=No the first time...

XPS14 (L421x) | Corning Gorilla Glass HD+ | i7 3517U | GT 630M | 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz | Momentus Thin (500GB) | mSATA Samsung (32GB) | Centrino Advanced-N 6235 + BT4.0

1. No way to get Centrino working? It's crucial for me. In the worst case, what would be a "100% no problem" wifi card to use to get wifi fully working?

2. And no way to get GTX 630M working? Without Optimus, just via terminal, something like "optrun program" in Linux.

3. And about battery, how is it going? ^^

------

About installation:

1. Did you use Retail or Distro install?

2. Burned the image to USB Flash Drive, installed the Bootloader, and done, you have a "ML USB Installer"?

3. Did you use Mac or Windows to install the Bootloader into the USB?

Thanks! I'm glad to see there is still some hope for me...

your notebook is equals to mine, same config.

Yes, NO WAY to get centrino working.

About GeForce, NO WAY to get it working too, to manage this you'ld have to disable integrated graphics HD4000 and I don't think it's possible, so, the best is to disable the card via DSDT to get more battery power and cooler nb.

I replaced centrino with AR9285 they are cheap on ebay and have full support

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-Atheros-AR5B95-AR9285-WiFi-Half-Mini-PCI-E-Wireless-Card-518436-002/290870549223?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D163%26meid%3D172827241554364435%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1088%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D140426594407%26

About Battery, as good as in Windows, about 5~6Hrs with wifi on.

I used Retail and I generated the bootable USB with myhack

to boot installed you have to install into the bootable usb the GenericUSBXHCI from ##### and use -x -v GraphicsEnabler=No flags.

The first time I used Windows to generate the bootable usb, but to manage this you have to run OS X under a VMWare virtual machine (several ways to do this on google)

After installed you'll have to boot with -x -v GraphicsEnabler=No and run the Combo Update 10.8.3, if you manage to get this far I can help you with the rest...

What will never work:

Only GeForce and Centino. Replacing centrino, only GeForce, but c'mon, notebooks are not for gaming anyway...

Well, never is a strong word, maybe some1 will get it working someday... hopefully

Thanks, I'll try as you said, and I wanted the 630M not for gaming, it's too weak for that anyway. I just wanted to get the "full potential of the hardware".

For gaming I have the other rig of the signature with GTX 680M SLi, and that's for gaming!  :)

Nice! HD4000 is good enough for daily osx use... When you got 10.8.3 booting, install Clover as bootloader over Chameleon, When you have 10.8.3 booting with Clover (Using -x -v GraphicsEnabler=No) let me know and I'll provide you my DSDT / kexts... remove AppleHDA.kext and NVDA* and GeForce*, if Anything goes wrong let me know

I'm using myHack right now (Copying installation packages...).

USB: GUID / HFS+ Journaled

After that I need the GenericUSBXHCI as you said. To do so I just need to run the "##### ML Edition", point to the USB, and only choose the GenericUSBXHCI, and it's done, right?

Yes, just like that :D and also, after you get system booting, it's important to install the GenericUSBXHCI into the system too to get the usb ports working...

EDIT:

I attached here the kexts you'll need and the config.plist and DSDT... (to install kexts i recommend Kext_Beast and then Kext Utility to rebuild cache)

config goes into /EFI/CLOVER

and DSDT into /EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched

the IO80211 is for atheros 9285

Install all the kexts and put config and DSDT into right place and you should be able to boot without flags (WITH CLOVER), If something goes wrong try -v and post a photo

After booting with HD4000 working, next is to get CPU power management working, but this I prefer to help you later...

kexts.zip

config and dsdt.zip

Edit: Oh, to get trackpad FULLY working, install rehab's man Voodoo PS2! you may need a USB mouse to setup the system before this...

Download and how to install instructions:

https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-Voodoo-PS2-Controller

To get click working on track pad go to System Preferences/TrackPad and Check clicking...

The Rehabman ps2 will get Physical clicking working and also gestures. (need to configure your own gestures in Keyboard Shortcuts)

I was trying to install GenericUSBXHCI using ##### but I can't modify the target installation, it's always poiting to the Internal HDD.

So, I download the GenericUSBXHCI.kext and put in USB > "/System/Library/Extensions", but during boot (with -x -v GraphicsEnabler=No) I get stuck at "[iOBluetoothHCIController][start] -- completed".

The Option to change target volume is right after selecting the modules to install and after changing the target you'll have to select again the modules to install, ita a bug.

Ok, I have a better idea, instead of using -x -v GraphicsEnabler=No, grab the DSDT i posted and put into /Extra (in the bootable USB) and install the AppleIntelFramebufferCapri i provived too (replace the one in S/L/E) and you should be abble to boot the installer only with -v

Maybe after putting the kexts into /S/L/E you have to fix the permissions

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Ex....

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Ext...

this worked for me last time I installed.

IF you can't manage to get it working this way, remove from usb stick all AppleIntelHD4000 kext, and all GeForce kext and NVDA** kexts and boot with -v -x GraphicsEnabler=No

Need to be AFK for some time now, have some things to do here... I'll come back later to check your situation.

As a last remark, UEFI will work with Clover UEFI but i recommend you to use legacy clover, the reason is Sleep... Only way to get sleep working is using Legacy boot with XPS14... better legacy with working sleep than UEFI and no sleep

Installed AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext with Kext_Beast and then:

Marcio-MBP:~ Marcio$ cd /Volumes/myHack\ OS\ X\ Install\ Disk

Marcio-MBP:myHack OS X Install Disk Marcio$ ls

Applications etc

Extra mach_kernel

Install OS X Mountain Lion.app myHack.app

Library private

System sbin

Volumes tmp

bin usr

boot var

dev

Marcio-MBP:myHack OS X Install Disk Marcio$ sudo chmod -R 755 System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext/

Password:

Marcio-MBP:myHack OS X Install Disk Marcio$ sudo chown -R root:wheel System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext/

Marcio-MBP:myHack OS X Install Disk Marcio$

And I put the config.plist + DSDT.aml in /Extra

------------------------

Boot with -v and I got stuck for 1min at "IOAPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors 64:87", and then a grey screen with the Mac cursor loading appeared, is that normal? I'm waiting to see if something happens, 2 mins and counting...

--------------------------

UPDATE:

Boot successful!

I removed:

- AppleIntelHDGraphics.kext

- AppleIntelHDGraphicsFB.kext

- AppleIntelHDGraphicsGA.plugin

- AppleIntelHDGraphicsVADriver.bundle

- NVDAGF100Hal.kext

- NVDAGK100Hal.kext

- NVDANV50Hal.kext

- NVDAResman.kext

- NVDAStartup.kext

And booted with -v -x GraphicsEnabler=No

So, just install it normally? As you know XPS14 have HDD + mSATA, did you install it on mSATA and use the HDD for documents storage, or something like that?

Its strange that you couldnt boot with dsdt and intelframebuffer, I think Its because you got no smbios... But ok for now, I used the normal HDD tô install, think 32gb is so small for the System, as long as i know you cant reallocate /Applications...

IF you needed to remove the kexts tô boot the installer im afraid you'll have to do this too in the installed System... For that u can boot the installer again and use terminal app

Edit.:

Chose Apple style theme in clover installer, my config. Plist that i provived you use it... Otherwise your interface will be buggy

Ok, I'l try it later, some tasks emerged from college and I needed to install Arch Linux to do some work ...
