I'm trying to get the retail dvd 10.8.4 to boot so I can start the process with installing it on my computer. I tried 2 destros so far, but it's a no go. So I'm trying with retail install with some sort of boot loader. For some odd reason this computer refuses to boot anything Mac related through USB, but if it's Windows based it would boot it just fine. I decided to go with using a cd boot loader and swap it out with the retail DVD. I tried Hackboot and another option, but they both fail as well. Does anybody have a good boot loader CD ISO I can use to get this thing started? There are many people here better qualified, than I, to help you, but you need to explain your situation better than you have. I'm not trying to put you off. I have a working hack (Ga-Z77X-UD5H, i7-3770 and Intel H4000 graphics.) This is one of the easier builds, but even I have had to work my way though problems. I used a copy of Mountain Lion OSX downloaded from the app store and loaded it onto a thumbdrive. So, I know nothing about ISO methods. But there are plenty of sources, here. I'm guessing about this site, since I build my Hack over at Tonymacx86, that you shouldn't expect to be spoon fed here. You are supposed to research your hardware before you ask questions. And to look for successful builds, of your hardware, using the approved methods. Perhaps, the more experienced members would know exactly what you meant, but I do not. A hackintosh is a hobby; it will always be more difficult than a Mac or a PC. It will demand that you go the extra mile before involving anyone else. Most your problems you must work out, alone. This is good for you. You need troubleshooting skills which can only come from experience. And experience comes from failure, confusion, thought and effort. joe_black Posted July 21, 2013 Share Posted July 21, 2013 One way I got my installation flash drive booting properly was by using a real Mac (or Mac VM) and using installing the Chameleon bootloader found in the downloads on the InsanelyMac homepage to the flash drive. You can then boot it from the BIOS. Bootloader Download: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/59-chameleon-22-svn/ ^ That is the best/most compatible bootloader I've used, personally. I'd still look for a successful build. That way you can see what problems they ran into. Let me restate your problems as I see them. You don't have a copy of "Install OS X Mountain Lion." Nor have you built a USB boot stick. You can't download from the App store without a Mac or a Hackintosh, plus an Apple ID, so you need to find a friend with a Mac. I'd help, but the methods here on this site are too new for me. I wouldn't trust me. Although I've read the instructions, I haven't tried the methods used here for installing OS X on a USB boot stick. Eventually, I'll get around to it. It's just different from what I am used to. 10.8.4 does not have a DVD, only a boot stick and a download from the app store. The last DVD Apple used was for Lion 10.7. I have an old copy if all else fails. The normal method to find a friend with a Mac. You need to build a USB boot stick on his machine. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Do you have confirmation that they worked? What is your build? Is it known to be hackable? Do you have a guide for a successful build? I'm guessing that you don't. I purchased it when I had a Mac and had it backed up, but had to sell it because of money issues. (Should be getting another Mac in a month or 2) So I'm trying to use this laptop for the time being. USB booting refuses to work at all with this machine. It just shows a blinking "_" when trying to boot. I tried using Niresh's 10.8.2 on DVD and it installed, but refused to boot into the OS afterwards. It got stuck at some point. iATkos ML2 10.8.4 I didn't want to use because I don't have any dual layer DVD.. PLUS I heard that it's not good with my graphics card, because the destro will slow it down or something like that. I'll try to install Niresh's 10.8.2 and give you a screen shot of what it's saying. My problem is that I want to reply in what I learned at TonyMacx86 and I'm unsure if it is applicable. Some things struck me. When you say that Niresh's 10.8.2 on DVD won't boot into the OS, what does it look like when you type in " -v PCIRootUID=0 "? That is, verbose mode and defining the boot drive? Also, are you trying to install OS X in a partition on the same drive as Windows? Did you wipe the partition or disk clean and format it in GUID rather than NTFS? There are so many ways to screw this up without knowing it. That is why you need a guide. Let's try some troubleshooting too, USB stick's don't work well in USB 3.0 ports. I formatted the hard drive to use GUID with 2 partitions. One is windows and the other is being used for OS. I have tried a clean install first with Niresh. Same issue with or without windows partition. Yes I've used many guides and most want to use a USB stick. theconnactic Posted July 21, 2013 Share Posted July 21, 2013 Hi! You must delete all kexts related to graphics (intel, ATI, nVidia). Only then you'll get to the desktop. After doing that, you can try to solve graphics following the link you posted in your first post - but i'm not sure it will be useful for you, since your Intel HD might not be the same used by first gen Core i CPUs. I installed software to read the Mac HD in windows and removed the Kexts for graphics and got it loaded up. I'm trying out those kexts in the Intel thread now and so far no good. I'm updating the OS to 10.8.4 now to see if that makes a difference. Quick question? Anybody know where I can get an ISO that is a live cd of Ubuntu?
