PS/2 keyboard stops working after every reboot

I'm running OS 10.8.4 right now on a Q9450/GA-EP45-UD3R.  My mouse and keyboard are a Microsoft Wireless Desktop where the wireless receiver plugs into a USB port for the mouse and into a PS/2 port for the keyboard.  This has been my set-up since Snow Leopard and it has been working with few hiccups.  Just recently, however, I think maybe since upgrading to Mountain Lion though I'm not positive, I have been having an issue where if I do crash or freeze and reboot, my keyboard is no longer working within Mac OS.  It works all the way up to and including where I can select which OS to boot into, but once Mac OS actually starts up, none of my keystrokes  register.  The way to fix this is to reboot, go into the BIOS and switch the "USB keyboard function" setting.  If it's enabled, I have to disable it; if it's disabled, I have to enable it.  Only then, once I restart, will the keyboard work within Mac OS once again.  Any idea what's going on here?

do you hit the reset button on your case to reboot or the system will reboot by itself?

I had similar problem 2 years ago with my PS2 mouse. It looked like the reboot by OS (soft reboot) have not released some resources of PS2 port (my interpretation of problem :D ) and i had to do hard reset each time. USB mouse solved my issue :) i know i did not help you much but just for your info :)
