ameris_cyning
Hey guys! There are many of you who would like to have Mountain Lion on your Haswell machine. Unfortunately, you are SOL unless you have a developers account or do something illegal. The good news is that you do not have to do anything illegal to get ML on your CPU. How is this possible? You can thank your AMD hackintosh brethren. They have made an excellent kernel that you can use. 1. Make an OS X startup disk. Anyone of the methods for creating a ML boot drive will do. 2. Go here and right-click and save the file "mach_sse4_exts". Rename this file to mach_kernel. Make sure that the new mach_kernel is in your Downloads folder 3. fire-up the terminal and type this "sudo cp ~/Downloads/mach_kernel /Volumes/NameOfTheFlashDriveYouAreUsingToInstallMLOn" 4. Reboot and install OS X 5. Reboot back to the Installer disk 6. Open up Terminal and type in "cp /mach_kernel /Volumes/NameOfTheHardDriveYouInstalledOSXOn" 7. Open Disk Utility and Repair Permissions on NameOfTheHardDriveYouInstalledOSXOn 8. Reboot to your OS X installation You can update it to 10.8.4 but you have to follow the steps to put the modified mach_kernel back on the root drive Happy hackintoshing Q and As: Q: I am using a nVidia graphics card. Will I have to deal with the graphics issues with nVidia because I use a kernel compiled for AMD? A: No. You dont have those restrictions.

Riwels
Thank you!!I've been able to load my current ML installed over a X48DQ6/Q9450/GTX470, in my new Z87HD3/4670K/IGP by using this kernel. The only problems atm are the CPU shown as unknown and the 3D acceleration not working, but at least I can go into the OS, not even needing to add -x parameter (just using "amd_kernel -v"), and do some stuff till there's full support for my system. I've set up my ML on a flash drive from my legit macbook. I'm hoping to put it on a new haswell build without a prior OS (no Windows or anything). At stage 3 do I use the terminal on my macbook, or do I use the little command line when choosing the boot options after using the normal tonymac method of booting? Cos that's where the problems start and that's what I'd hope this kernel fixes. Please help me understand what I'm confused about here. Thanks in advance EDIT: And here are the parts, just in case anyone needs to know this info: Asus Xonar D1 7.1Ch PCI 24Bit Sound x 1 Cooler Master HAF X V2, Black, Full x 1 32GB (4x8GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance x 1 Pioneer BDR-S07XLT Blu-ray Writer 1 x 1 250GB Samsung 840 Series Basic, 2.5 x 1 4GB EVGA GT 640, 28nm, 1334MHz GDDR x 1 2TB WD WD20EZRX Green, 3.5" HDD, SA x 2 Intel Core i7 4770, 1150, Haswell x 1 Asus MAXIMUS VI EXTREME, Intel Z87 x 1 27" Acer S271HLCbid LED Full HD WVA x 1 1000W Cooler Master V-series 80 PLU x 1 Edited August 18, 2013 by ericeriksson
