DiscoStew
Howdy Folks When I first decided to build my own Hackintosh, I (admittedly) used the methods and resources from the "Other guys" website. Unfortunately, getting help from that forum has been nearly non-existent. So on to my question....Will I be able to use the software and guides from insanelymac to finish getting my hackintosh up and running? Or will I have to reformat my fusion drive and start again from scratch? My hardware is in my signature.... My only outstanding ML issues are: 1) Must manually enter GraphicsEnabler=No to get a full boot (or else it freezes after the Apple logo screen tries to transition to the login screen) GE=No is in my boot.plist 2) Wake from sleep not working I'm hoping to get these issues resolved without wiping everything clean and starting again...been at this for over 3 weeks and still can't get decent support from the "Other Guys" website. So i decided to come to Insanelymac for a better product and support. Feel free to ask me for more info if it will help. 3.14r2
2) Don't know. It's quite complicated problem and it is system specific. My notebook doesn't wake, nor does it can restart properly. It doesn't bother me much, as I tend to turn the PC off then not in use for an hour or more. OS X boots up quickly, so not a big deal to turn it off/on. 1) You'll need to add the <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>No</string> in the org.chameleon.Boot.plist or whatever it is called in your case. SS01
you shouldn't have to reinstall, these seem to be post-install problems. 3.14r2 has the GPU issue covered, as for sleep, are you using a DSDT?
iFIRE
So i decided to come to Insanelymac for a better product and support 3 weeks and still can't get decent support from the"Other Guys" website. theconnactic
Disco, for sleep, you'll usually need DSDT edits for your hardware, graphics fully enabled, as well as power management. Sometimes, you can use a SleepEnabler.kext to skip all the process, but then again, if your GPU isn't being recognized by OSX, wake from sleep won't work at all. For restart/shut down, usually some version of EvoReboot.kext will do the trick. For the two mentioned kexts, check www.kexts.com, or the downloads section of Insanelymac. All the best! DiscoStew
1) You'll need to add the <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>No</string> in the org.chameleon.Boot.plist or whatever it is called in your case. I have that in the org.chameleon.boot.plist. I have checked and rechecked for any typos, yet it doesn't seem to work. you shouldn't have to reinstall, these seem to be post-install problems. 3.14r2 has the GPU issue covered, as for sleep, are you using a DSDT? I have done no DSDT edits. From the "Other Guys" site, I was under the impression that the mobo I have did not need any DSDT edits. Could someone point me in the right direction on this? u can use my unfinished beta guide for this mbo. Look my sig for link I will check that out tonight I hope I can get this all resolved over the weekend. Cheers, Stew
3.14r2
I have that in the org.chameleon.boot.plist. I have checked and rechecked for any typos, yet it doesn't seem to work. Are you sure there no other instances of org.chameleon.boot.plist located somewhere else on the disk? I don't know which version of Chameleon "the other guy" uses, but you may try using a newer version of the boot loader, as some Chameleon versions may not work properly. I don't know which version of Chameleon "the other guy" uses, but you may try using a newer version of the boot loader, as some Chameleon versions may not work properly. @3.14r2 I don't think there is....but after several dozen installs/reformats/reinstalls....I can't say for sure. The only plist i have worked with is in my EXTRAS folder. Is there a way for me to search my hackintosh for a possible second instance? I guess I could edit something else on that plist and see what happens (just to make sure that it is the plist the boot sequence is looking at)...any suggestions as to what would be editable and not destructive to all the hours of swearing I have put into this build? I also plan to try setting things up using the IGFX instead of the 660Ti. This way I might be able to tell if it is my graphics card as the issue or something else. Thoughts? meknb
You might want to check your extra/ isn't on your efi partition or your boot loader is installed on it ? diskutil list ## To find your efi partition mkdir /Volumes/efi sudo mount_hfs /dev/disk0sX /Volumes/EFI ##change you disk to the one your efi is on
3.14r2
The only plist i have worked with is in my EXTRAS folderThe plist file should be located in /Extra by default. The other thing is that the above folder could be located on the root of the drive or in the EFI partition (which can also be used to install Chameleon to). So check what meknb suggests. Who knows... DiscoStew
Thanks for the replies. I am not sure what meknb was suggesting I do. (Sorry, but I am not knowledgable about the use of Console and what the different commands are) So for ease of describing what I should be doing, here is what i saw in the console, but don't have a clue what to do next. The drive named PANDA is my USB boot loader. Disk2 is my fusion drive named "FUsedFUApple" Last login: Sun Apr 21 13:21:30 on ttys000 new-host-5:~ FUApple$ diskutil list /dev/disk0 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme *240.1 GB disk0 1: EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1 2: Apple_CoreStorage 239.7 GB disk0s2 3: Apple_Boot Boot OS X 134.2 MB disk0s3 /dev/disk1 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme *1.0 TB disk1 1: EFI 209.7 MB disk1s1 2: Apple_CoreStorage 999.9 GB disk1s2 3: Apple_Boot Boot OS X 134.2 MB disk1s3 /dev/disk2 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: Apple_HFS FUsedFUApple *1.2 TB disk2 /dev/disk3 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: FDisk_partition_scheme *15.7 GB disk3 1: Apple_HFS Panda 15.7 GB disk3s1 new-host-5:~ FUApple$ mkdir /Volumes/efi mkdir: /Volumes/efi: File exists new-host-5:~ FUApple$ sudo mount_hfs /dev/disk0s1 usage: mount_hfs [-xw] [-u user] [-g group] [-m mask] [-e encoding] [-t tbuffer-size] [-j] [-c] [-o options] special-device filesystem-node -j disables journaling; -c disables group-commit for journaling new-host-5:~ FUApple$ So what do I do next in console? WaldMeister
sudo mount_hfs /dev/disk0s1 /Volumes/EFI Should solve the problem.
DiscoStew
sudo mount_hfs /dev/disk0s1 /Volumes/EFI Should solve the problem. @Lejenk Thanks for the reply I wasn't sure if there was something more I needed to do. I haven't had a chance to work on my Hackintosh this week. I will try it and report back. Cheers, Stew
iFIRE
THE PROBLEM is what the system can not mount EFI, because the EFI Parttition no have format, try this: diskutil eraseVolume "HFS+" "EFI" /dev/disk0s1
WaldMeister
I disagree iFIRE. The guide was clear, but DiscoStew forgot to provide the mount point in his commands. iFIRE is right. Use his command, then what meknb suggested.

If I can't get everything up to speed by the end of this weekend I will probably restart everything from scratch. (ie un-fuse my fusion drive/reformat everything/start again). Since once I get this issue solved, I still need to sort out some other minor bugs like wake from sleep. Cheers, Stew
DiscoStew
Alright....finally had a chance to try some of the suggestions that were made here. First I tried iFire's suggestion: new-host-5:~ FUApple$ diskutil eraseVolume "HFS+" "EFI" /dev/disk0s1 Started erase on disk0s1 Unmounting disk Error: -5344: MediaKit reports not enough space on device for requested operation So I'm not sure what was suppose to happen Cheers, Stew
iFIRE
the code that you post is wrong, copy and paste to Terminal app try this first: diskutil umount /dev/disk0s1 then diskutil eraseVolume "HFS+" "EFI" /dev/ disk0s1
DiscoStew
Sorry for digging up my old post (from a year ago), but I had put this project aside and am now getting back to it. My problem still persists. I still need to manually enter GE=No to get a successful boot. I have tried the above mentioned commands, but still no love on startup. I tried the code that iFire provided, but still nothing How can I delete everything, including my Fusion setup and start over? If i have to do it all again, I might as well use Mavericks instead on Mountain Lion.
DiscoStew
Ummm...I think I have a problem ...well, another problem. Name : FUAppleFUsion Type : Logical Volume Group Disk Status : Online Total Capacity : 1.24 TB (1,239,574,347,776 Bytes) Free Space : 90 KB (90,112 Bytes) Physical Backing : disk0s2,disk1s2 Note the "Free Space" of only 90 KB. I think something has gone sour with my Fusion Set-up. What should I do next?
