Laserhive conversion kit question

Hey everyone,

 

After lurking for a while, I decided to pull the trigger on my own G5 conversion.

 

Today I got my Laserhive mATX 120 kit and set about installing it.

 

I have a question about the motherboard tray...Basically I am worried about the brass fittings in the acrylic tray making contact with the chassis. Should I be worried about this? if they do make contact will it cause a short?

 

I took out my multimeter and did a continuity check and none of them complete a circuit but I would really prefer not to blow my whole system on start up.

 

Has anyone else had a problem? Would anything happen if one of the brass fittings makes contact with the back plate?

Dan, there is no problem. Think about it.....the original G5 standoffs are physically and conductively connected to the chassis.

 

Only thing you ever need to check for is if any part of the underside of the motherboard (i.e. circuitry) has any danger of shorting on to the chassis. As my trays are perspex there is never any direct contact between mobo underside and chassis.

 

Our Laser hive kits do though of course fit around and secure to some of the original G5 standoffs. So you DO need to make sure that any of the original G5 standoffs that you have left within the motherboard footprint are trimmed short enough (or removed) so there is no chance of your mobo grounding to them.

 

If in ANY doubt. Remove all G5 standoffs that you are NOT using to secure your tray and if there are some under the mobo that you are using and need to use to keep it sturdy then you can email me directly for advice at the usual address.

 

I repeat though, the brass inserts in my trays will never cause you any problem with shorts.
