Xpsycho Posted April 11, 2013 Share Posted April 11, 2013 Hello everyone, I am having a problem that I can't seem to fix. I have built many hackintosh systems over the years and not had many problems that I couldn't fix however this is the first time I am completely stumped. System Specs: Gigabyte Z77X-UP7 motherboard Intel core i7-3770k processor Kingston HyperX Blu 32GB Ram OCZ Vector 256gb SSD EVGA GTX 660 video Cooler Master V6 GT cooler Cooler Master Cosmos II Case I have built the system and everything works perfect with a single video card. The minute I install my second video card and hook up the SLI cable, my system freezes during Boot up. I figured a motherboard issue so I tried to install windows 8 on the drive. The windows 8 boots perfect and runs great. I am hoping one of the gurus here can help me out to figure out what is happening and why. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Xpsycho Posted April 11, 2013 Author Share Posted April 11, 2013 No OSX doesn't support SLI however on my other hack it works perfect. I honestly think it has something to do with the motherboard and osx. I have a gigabyte z77-ud5h with dual cards in SLI and it works fine. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have a 750 watt OCZ power supply trying to power the everything including 10 3tb seagate 7200 rpm drives, 2 2tb sea gate 7200 rpm drives, a Blu-ray drive and a DVD burner. Time to try a new power supply. Ok still doesn't make sense. I have disconnected everything, installed just processor, fan, 256gb SSD, 2 video cards. Booted into Mac and windows perfect. Installed my rocketraid 2720sgl and booted into windows perfect but when I tried to go into Mac, freeze! If I pull my 2nd video card, it boots into Mac perfect as well. I am stumped. It is Apples personal opinion that multi GPU support is at the Application level and not a Apples level. Apps like CS6 After Effects,, CS6 Premier and Black Magics Di Vinci Resolve all support SLI under Mac OS X. This does not require a bridge and therefor is not as efficient. But it still is SLI. Yes. You can't be pulling more the 550 WATTS. Can you boot into the USB installer with both cards installed and can you post a screen shot of the code where it locks up. I moved my video cards into the pic-e x16 slot 3&4 and put my rocketraid card into the pic-e x8-1 slot, fired it up with SLI cable on and BAM triple monitor fired up, I jumped for joy, and now if anyone else experiences this problem, there is finally a solution.. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Does that mean that dual cards like the 690 and the 7990 are also supported at app level? P.S.: one thing is not straight yet: if SLI is supported only at app level, and the SLI bridge it's unnecessary altogether, why didn't Xpsycho system accept to boot without the SLI cable? I think I am going to have to talk to Gigabyte for this or try a different raid card. I have the same RAID card and it works fine. What format is the RAID and are you booting off the RAID card? Your lanes will NEVER run at those speeds.... unless.... you use PCIe 3.0 cards. There is no card on the market at the moment which really use the 3.0 bandwidth. So when you have SLI installed: x8 x8 x8 x8 PCIe 3.0 when converted into the 2.0 standard it is x16 x16 x16 x16 when it comes to bandwidth which is what they use to advertise.
