edgedev Posted April 9, 2013 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Hello all, I have a few questions reguarding imaging Mac computers. It's been a long time since I've done so, but in my new position, we are deploying computers in a small amount that in the past they were all configured one at a time. Now we are scaling up, and I've developed an imaging process for deployment for our PCs, but I am having an issue doing it for Macs. I have already found a way to basically have it almost as if I am syspreping a windows machine by replacing the default acount with a pre-configured version of what I want on the machine. My main issue is finding a program or software that allows be to capture the image from the computer so I can put it on our future computer deployments. I have looked into Carbon Copy but from some feedback, the new versions don't support OSX 10.8. I am not looking to make a distribution server, because frankly we don't have a spare mac that we can use to make one. I just want to have the image on my 2 external hard drives that I use to image my Windows machines with Norton Ghost via Hirens Boot Disk. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
JCsHands Posted April 9, 2013 Share Posted April 9, 2013 I am sure that someone is going to be able to give you a more elegant method, but what if you install OS X on an external HDD. Create the image using Disk Utility, save the image on the HDD and then when you need to restore the image just boot off the HDD and restore the desired image. Where I work they use Puppet to maintain the Macs and Linux machines, it might be overkill for what you want to do, but you might want to look into that. I have looked into using Disk Utility, but from what I understand, it formats the external HD as a bootable option, but it takes up the whole disk. If I am wrong, please let me know so I can start, otherwise please advise. I am looking for it to just be put onto an external but as a single file or a set of files ( like .GHO files, or .IMG files).
