[How-To] Remove the I/O PCI Slots Part from the G5 Case

As you can see there are three parts, the case, the I/O PCI Slots and the plastique numbered part. (view from the outside of the case)

 

Before starting, do not forget to dremel out the two rivets on the side of the case

@ second thought, I forgot that my piece of back plate is already cut out. Of course if your two parts (inner and outer) of the case are not separated, you'll have to dremel the rivets from the inside of the case and therefore first unglue the plastique numbered part

 

View from the inside of the case, after removing the "thin flat protective metals",

you can see the two little pins from the plastique numbered glued part

From the inside of the case, you insert a flat screwdriver between the case and the I/O piece at the angle of it where there is a small space and

gently separate the two by lifting inch by inch from one side along the I/O plate . You will notice that the further you go the easier the plate separates from the case

and then from the other side

If the two rivets had been taken out, the I/O PCI part is now freed

So you do not have to do as shown on the two following pix when I forgot to first dremel out the two rivets
