The 650ti only works with OS ML correct? any recommendations? Thanks guys really appreciate your help.
Rampage Dev
Yes, it is supported. 500 Watt PSU would be more the enough and then take the money you saved and get the 660 Ti.
changerrs
Thank you rampage dev for you feed back. But wouldnt the 660ti almost cost double? Im not really a big gamer, but i do game every now and then. Mainly just want to be able to support 2 or 3 monitors.

Im not really a big gamer, but i do game every now and then. Mainly just want to be able to support 2 or 3 monitors. 650 and below are Fermi based and only support 2 monitors. 660 and up support up to 4 and 650 could never drive 2 screens properly. What about getting a basic 660. The money you save on the PSU alone should make up the difference.
changerrs
ahh i did not know the 650 and below are fermi based. THANK YOU! yeah i guess im gonna end up going with the 660ti. Do you know the difference between the 660 and the 660ti?

Do you know the difference between the 660 and the 660ti? 660 Ti uses the 670 core. Some OEM 660 use the 670 core as well but are not for sale. Ive been looking here: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.8.2#Gigabyte and it doesnt seem to be listed. any thoughts? I would like to go with the newest gigabyte mobo with the integrated wifi. difference between the GA-Z77X-UD5H-WB Wifi vs. GA-Z77X-UD3H? I notice that the UD3H is much cheaper and Ive compared the two mobos on newegg, but dont really see that much of a difference.

Those MB work fine however. The wifi edition just has a wifi card added to the system and you will have to change the wifi card to a supported one. changerrs
may I ask why you recommend the UD5-TH?
theconnactic
Because it has two thunderbolt ports?

jlfilms
i get 8500-8600, gigabyte z77 ds3h i5 3570k 3.4ghz
theconnactic
Hmm, should be far more: with a setup fairly similar to yours (see iHack Workstation in my sig) i get close to 11.200 points! Run Geekbench in 64-bit mode with no app open, other than Geekbench itself. If you get below 10.000 again, see if spotlight indexing is going on. If not, you really should research about Ivy Bridge Power Management. What's your system definition (smBIOS)?
jlfilms
how do i see if spotlight indexing is going on? jus ran 64bit an got 9865... :\ my system def, is macmin 6,
theconnactic
Did you get that result with all other apps closed except for GeekBench itself?
jlfilms
Did you get that result with all other apps closed except for GeekBench itself? yes, and i got 9870 again never seems to go above 9800 ish. i read on another forum that someone had same problem and disabled speed step in bios or somthing like that but i couldnt find anything like that in my bios.
theconnactic
Precisely the opposite! You need a custom ssdt for you system for it to speedstep properly. You're getting no turbo states, thus the low scores.
jlfilms
oh how do i fix that?
theconnactic
First, let's see if this is really the problem! Click on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen and select About This Mac> More Info> System Report, then scroll down the pop-up window and click in extensions at the list located in the left. Search for a next called X86PlatformPlugin.kext: if it's not loaded, then you need to set PM up. All the best!
