The DC power seems to be there for bus-powered devices like USB 3 portable hard disks that require more power. Retina iPads also need this for charging. Presumably you can't get that much power from an expresscard connection.

 

I've no experience with expresscard adapters so maybe someone who has can tell you how the extra power works. You probably will need it unless you're planning to use USB3 devices with their own power source.

 

I think so too.

Anyway I'm going to buy the card with FL1100 because of its compatibility.

For the devices that drains more power I'll use the normal USB 2.0 ports.

I'd be inclined to go with the FL1100 too, due to the fact that it's natively supported. But it all depends on what devices you plan to use on it.

Well, the USB 3.0 Hard Drives (2.5") auto powered are backward compatible with the USB 2.0 standard.

I have an EJ168 USB 3.0 controller and GenericUSBXHCI is the only driver that can totally

My issue is, I'm using an Xbox360 Controller (BTW, GenericUSBXHCI is the only driver that allow me to use this
controller) and if for any reason I have to disconnect it, when I try to reconnect it again, I'll get an instant reboot
with no backtraces at system's log...

<br />I found the culprit. I logged in holding shift and started my login items one by one. The culprit is NIHardwareAgent.app. It has no issue if the drive is plugged in AFTER the service is started, it's only when it tries to start after the drive is already mounted. Unfortunately, I need this app for my Maschine Controller to work, but at least it's a start. It looks like the app itself hasn't been updated since 2010, but I think it's referencing some kexts that have a recent update available.<br /><br />Edit 2: The update didn't solve anything. I see 2 options: 1. Perhaps using iopciprimarymatch in gusbxhi will help? 2. Figure out a way to start the app as a launchdaemon or launchagent<br />

<br /><br />Does anyone have any suggestions for this? I know it's a device specific issue, but I don't know where else to ask because obviously I can't ask on the native instruments forum (not to mention their customer support is terrible anyway).

BTW I tried making a launchdaemon and a launchagent and neither worked

When booting using the kext, I get the following messages:

Plus, when I am trying to sleep, I get the following:

Also have USB related issues with sleep, but I actually think they are USB2 related.

 

Any idea what to do about that?

 

EDIT: I am on R4E, so that should be the ASM1042 controller.

I'm having trouble with USB3.  I have an Asus P9X79-E WS with Asmedia ASM1042 chipset.  I have some drives that will show up, but copying files to or from the drives yields an Error -36 message.  Some other drives don't show at all.  I tried adding the DisableUAS string and false key under the IOKitPersonalities/GenericXHCI section of the Info.plist in GenericUSBXHCI.kext 1.2.7, but that didn't work.

 

I also tried changing the IOProbeScore value to -1, but that didn't work either.

 

The same drives all work with the USB2 ports with no issues.

 

Running 10.9.1.  I was going to try editing /System/Library/Extensions/AppleKextExcludeList.kext/Contents/Info.plist, but there is no Info.plist file in that folder on my system.

 

What can I do to fix this?

 

EDIT: I just found that the Info.plist is a hidden file.  I edited it and confirmed the kext is loading, but it still doesn't work.

 

I also found that the drive that won't mount in the USB3 port, will mount if it's connected at boot up.  If I connect it after the OS is already loaded it won't mount and won't appear in Disk Utility at all.

 

EDIT2: I tried the CalDigit kexts and they got the USB3 ports working with some drives, but not others.  I have an HGST Touro Portable USB3 drive that is working, and I have a Seagate GoFlex Portable USB3 drive that does work at all. It won't mount and doesn't show in Disk Utility at all. It does work on the USB2 ports and works on the USB3 ports on my MacBook Pro.

I removed the GenericUSBXBCI.kext and installed the Caldigit kexts (those old ones) and they worked.  My USB3 is now working with most of the USB3 drives.  However, my Seagate GoFlex portables from a couple years ago don't work.  So it's not perfect, but they are doing something to get the ASM1042 chipset to work better than the GenericUSBXHCI.kext.  Is there a way to get everything (including the Seagates) to work with this kext?  The xhcdumps I posted above have both an HGST Touro portable and a Seagate GoFlex portable connected with GenericUSBXHCI loaded.

I have the same usb 3 chipset, but on my GA-Z68XP-UD3 and for some reason I also get reboots when i plug in a usb flash drive into my intel usb 2 ports, but if i remove this usb 3 kext, it stops and I can plug in anything and no reboots, so its obviously its the kext, and I would have posted it in the tickets, but I have no error logs either. But its like some sort of conflict with my onboard usb 2 ports, and I had this same issue with both 10.8.5 and 10.9.1. Using the older cali usb kext seems to stop it from happening.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what is the purpose of this driver, when OS X includes com.apple.driver.AppleUSBXHCI by default?  At least in 10.9.

 

I'm using a Highpoint 1144e, which uses an ASM1042x chip, and I have trouble with certain models of USB 3 drive, namely G-Tech G-RAID 4TB and 8TB.  All other tested drives work fine, but the G-RAIDs spontaneously disconnect when transferring lots of data, and sometimes give Finder error -36.  Could this driver fix the problem?
I'm using a Mac Pro 5,1.

What's the proper way to install this?  I tried moving it to /Library/Extensions, but got a warning about unidentified developer.  So I downloaded Kext Utility 2.5.7 and dragged the kext onto it.  That seemed to copy the kext to both locations /Library/Extensions and /System/Library/Extensions, and I think it automatically updates AppleKextExcludeList.kext.  After a reboot, I get this:

kextstat and the Extensions panel both show a list of all loaded kexts, including both Apple and the Generic XHCI driver.  But I did discover that System Information > USB shows which driver is used for each bus.  Thanks anyway.  I'm going to delete this driver now.

This sounds like my problem, but did not solve it on my 8-series z87x. It would be cool with any tips further on.

This problem persists even with no devices attached to the computer.

Patch your dsdt to add clock-id for USB and XHCI to prevent waking up by USB. If you use Clover, set Devices > USB Inject + Add ClockID.

I’ve been trying to get it running smoothly.

 

After the mandatory two weeks building/re-building, tears, hair-pulling, caffeine injections and slapping my forehead…

 

I have everything except…

 - only 2 of 4GB of the graphics card memory being recognised (it's performing well using the Heaven benchmark tests - I think - at least comparable to the same tests under Windows with the latest Driver) 

 - USB3 external disks are working (maybe not at full-speed) - up to a point.

 

USB3…

 - I have an EX-11092-2 - USB 3.0 PCIe Board from here http://www.exsys.ch/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=204_209_235&products_id=836

-Slot-1

 - 3TB ‘OnMemory’  Disk  is recognised but not mountable

-Slot-2

 - USB3 Hub

   - 3TB ‘Intenso’ Disk is recognised but not mountable

   - 1TB Seagate GoFlex Disk is mounted and in Read/Write mode (It’s NTFS)

          Aside - NTFS Drivers for Seagate External Drives (Paragon)

 

The 3TB disks…

 - The 'OnMemory' Disk has it’s original formatting

 - the ‘Intenso’ disk was formatted (Under Windows) as exFAT with 4kb extents/sectors

 - both disk complete 'Verify/Repair' under disk Utility without error

 

On first boot after running GenericUSB… it recognised the drive in slot-1 of PCI card

 

On second reboot it recognised the hub and the other two drives attached

 

I’m now stumped.

 

Anyone any suggestions? - the drives are no longer blank so formatting under Mac might take a bit of doing (I'll have to get and extra disk somewhere)

hi guys. i'm getting this issue on my system. (sabertooth x79 )

my system goes to sleep and wakes up very well. the issue is that it wakes up after some times even if i don't want!

this is what pmset -g assertions gives:

what can i do? obviously if i removed the 2 hard disk connected on my usb3 ports, external media gives me 0.

can i make my system sleeping (without waking from sleep after some minutes)without disconnecting my usb3 disks?
