Hi, I'm working on a new laptop and I'm currently working on getting sound.

The laptop has an intel hm77 chipset and intel high definition audio.

I have tried all the voodoo kexts I can find and at best just get a crackling when a sound is played and at worst an unbootable system.

Any ideas where I go from here?

Find out which sound chip you have. You probably need a patched AppleHDA and a DSDT edit to get sound working.

The easiest way would be extracting your codec from an Ubuntu Live usb. How to do this is described in the following post: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/283754-patched-applehdakext-for-codecs-idt-92hd81b1x5-idt-92hd91bxx/?do=findComment&comment=1861876

All information regarding your audio can be found in codec.txt file.

Well no clues using ioregexplorer, I will just keep trying realtec kexts until hopefully one works.

hmm getting bored with randomly trying alc**** kexts, how can I tell in windows which it is, I can't find any clues in the device manager or by looking at the driver files.

I don't really use Windows. IORegistryExplorer is a Hackintosher's best friend, so chances are you'll need to use it many times. Just launch it, and scroll down to the section that matches the picture. That's all

Needs a DSDT edit though: http://www.insanelym...-inspiron-1464/

If you don't have a DSDT yet, here's a video explaining how to extract it from windows:

It will need patching, you can use DSDT Editor to do so, if you have trouble with it, leave the extracted DSDT here :)
