Please see post #9. Right now I'm only trying to get my USB Working because once USB works, Bluetooth works. I have a USB Wifi Dongle

Hi,

I bought recently a new Alienware M17X R4. I was running Mountain Lion on my old laptop but now I sold it :). I still have my USB Key for installation but it wont boot on my Alienware M17x :( Trying to boot the installation but I get 'Still Waiting for Root Device'. My SATA is AHCI! My USB Key is a Sandisk Cruzer 8GB and I know it works, I used it for my older PC! I also noticed that my USB Key seems to shut off while booting the installation and then I get 'Still Waiting for Root Device'.

What's wrong? My Sata is AHCI! Could it be because my laptop has USB 3.0?

I would also like to make sure, I have 2 HDD in my laptop. 1 SSD and 1 HDD. My SSD is for Windows ONLY! I want to keep my laptop booting in Windows by default using Windows bootloader! On my second hard drive, I have 2 partitions, Fedora and Mac. Right now, Fedora is installed into the 1st partition. So if I wish to go into it, I need to press F12 and select 'Second Hard Drive'. Can I still do that with Mac?

I'm downloading iAKTOS M2 right now in case I have more success then the retail patched one

Thanks!

Extra.zip try this folder Extra

Thanks you! Tried and nothing more :( My USB still turn off while booting the install and then I get 'Still Waiting for Root Device' :( It is iATKOS M2 by now and still nothing more even with your Extra folder.

I really believe it has something to do with my USB 3.0..

Burned on a DVD Double Layer my iATKOS M2 and it booted the install. Why does it takes that long from a DVD, didn't remember it was that slow lol..

However..... I have two drives in my Alienware, one SSD and one HDD, it only sees my SSD and I wanted to install it on my HDD.. What's wrong once again !!! :(

This COULD work for your bluetooth (I am not so positive that it could, however): turn off legacy USB in your bios. This will in theory activate your USB differently? I dunno just try it. Aint no harm in it if I am wrong.

Alright, was tired of not finding enough options in bios so... Flashed an Unlocked Bios latest A10. I have tons of options with USB and other stuffs that I don't understand.

I played a lot with my USB Settings ie Legacy, Debug, XHCI (Something like it)

and it did works ONCE!!!! For some reason, when USB worked even BLUETOOTH WORKED! I just rebooted the computer for fun to test if it was permanent and it went away. Unable to get my USB back since then. All I can tell is that in About Mac, it wasn't reconized as USB 3.0 when it worked, it was reconized as a normal USB Controller.

if it worked once, it can work TWICE too !!! :( What is wrong?

Extra infos with Screenshot (USB Not working on these pictures, only microsoft mouse works and 3 USB key (2Gb, 4GB and 8GB are plugged right now..) :

Got it to work once! By disabling xHCI in Bios. That way OS X reconized all my USB Port as EHCI and IT WAS PERFECT :D Even Bluetooth worked! Anyway.. rebooted and lost it again..

Any help?

Edit : Since my alieware only has USB 3.0 port and USB 3.0 devices works but not 2.0 and 1.0, if I would get a USB 3.0 Hub, would USB 2.0 and 1.0 devices works because the hub is a USB 3.0 device?

As I said, disable USB3 in bios. xhci. Make sure it's staying disabled, and if there's any option to have it run as USB2 instead, enable that. Your USB3 might work, but there are other devices on that bus that will not work as USB3 (like bluetooth-or mouse even tho it shows up) and the hubs can cause problems (not the kind you plug in but the one seen in system profiler). You might be able to get both working at some point with DSDT or kext edits, but for now just working USB comes first. Legacy USB option in bios relates to how it reads thumbdrives and stuff to boot from and can be left at default. Just disable the USB3 stuff.
