[Solved]Can't install Windows

I have 10.8.1 on 1 partition of my HDD and I'm trying to install Windows 7 on the other partition. My old laptop (that I traded for the ASUS N53S I have now) had 2 HDDs so dual booting was no problem. However, I guess you can't install Windows on an EFI disk. Never had to worry about this before as I had 2 HDDs.

Hiw can I install Windows on the partition when ai already have Mac OS X installed on the other partition?

Could I clone my Mac OS X partition to my External HDD? If so, what's the best way of going about this?

Thanks.

clone with Carbon Copy Cloner and install Chameleon to external HD. Make sure it's bootable then..

reformat as MBR with 2 partitions and install windows.

boot back to external HD, and clone OSX back with Carbon Copy Cloner and install Chameleon to internal HD

profit?

I installed Windows 7, but after booting to my exteral HDD, I can't copy the files over to my main HDD partition for Mac OS X. It's formatted as NTFS and aparently I need journaled. I can't change it to journaled.

Hiw can I go about this?

you need only windows partition to be NTFS, mac cannot write natively to NTFS drives, it can only read them unless you use 3rd parts add on software. Still OSX cannot be installed to NTFS. Mac partition is NFS+ Journaled aka. Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

I know, what I'm saying is how can I install Windows on an NTFs partiion and then install Mac to HFS+ if I can't format HFS+ with Windows, and Mac OS X won't allow me to do ANYTHING with the drive if it's NTFS?

When you install Windows, create the partitions you need, one for Windos, one for OSX, and one for storage (if needed).

Install Windos, after installing, format the other 2 partitions to fat32, so that the OSX installer can format them if needed. Notice, installing OSX will corrupt your Windos boot loader, there are a few nice tutorials in the Genius Bar on how to solve these issues.

Oh, yeah. The OP actually PM'd me about this back on the 28th and my reply should have gone here instead. Appears to have solved his query and will mark topic.

My reply again twas:

"you have to do it all at once, use diskutility to format drive as MBR with 2 partitions, one HFS+ and one NTFS, once an NTFS partition has been created on a drive, OSX can no longer modify it after the fact, only Linux can"

There may be ability to change format type on certain partitions still, but very limited and cannot manipulate size or location.
