Apple Magic Trackpad on Virtual Mac OSX 10.8

Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum so please don't react to panicly...

So I got this Laptop, which is an HP Pavilion DV7. I installed VMWare Workstation 9 and used a preloaded virtual Disk with Mac OSX 10.8 installed. So everything works just fine except for:

Gestures of the Magic Trackpad

Sound and Video are lagging

Graphics Acceleration is not working

And it's a bit slow but that's not really surprising

So what I was gonna ask: Could anyone help me getting the graphics acceleration and the sound and video working?

And I need to say that this is my first Mac experience. I have never used Mac except for a little bit of goofing around in several shops.

Thank you for your time and help!

Regards Oechiih

EDIT: Sorry, I just realised that the Title doesn't really hit my target. Please Excuse-me

In my case, sound is working fine. For video, hardware accceleration is not working, I need to uncheck the option of using hardware acceleration of the player (Adobe Flash Player, for ex), I use Perian for Mac v1.2.3 for playing video files with QuickTime Player insteads of VLC.

You can visit http://vmsvga2.sourceforge.net/ to download sound and video drivers if you want to try. This may solve your problem.

Thanks for the quick replies !!

I'll try the drivers and "Perian" don't know what that is yet.

But I can't install the VMWare Tools from the darwin.iso. Don't know why but everytime I try it I get an error message that the setup hasn't worked correctly.

So maybe I'm just too dumb to install it.

Pretty sad graphics acceleration won't work, I wanted to try Final Cut Pro.

Well Thanks a lot.

And then there is something different I wanted to ask too. I've got the Apple Magic Trackpad, and it works just fine. Left and right click, scrolling with 2 fingers these work just fine, but what I wanted to ask was: Can I use the Gestures from the Magic Trackpad in the Virtual Machine?

In my case, the Apple Trackpad is not working.

I don't know why you cannot install VMware tools but you may want to install Mac OS X as a virtual machine by yourself inteads of getting a preinstalled virtual machine somewhere else.

Just need to remember to get a retail Mac OS X DVD, some releases from HOTiSO cannot boot because they're not retail (I met this problem before).

Yep - good points. Always use a retaill OS X with VMware on Intel CPU.

My Trackpad is working on my AMD-PC with a Kensington Bluetooth module and on my Intel-Notebook with built-in Bluetooth. I just needed to install the drivers I found on google. It works both on Win7 and Win8.

I don't really want to install OS X by myself with a retail DVD because I don't know how and I just wanted to test Mac OS X and Final Cut Pro but I guess Final Cut will never be tested by myself.

Maybe I'll buy myself a Mac in maybe 10 years (if Apple still exists until then).

Installing Mac OS X Lion or Mountain Lion on VMWare Workstation v8 or v9 is not difficult with the help from VMWare Unlocker. The following are what I've done:

1. Download Apple Mac OS X Lion Retail as "Install Mac OS X Lion.dmg" --> WHERE to find this (Just "Bing it on"/ Google it or find in your favorite ... forums) :D

2. Convert the installer into an ISO:

On Windows, use dmg2img (http ://vu1tur.eu.org/tools/) to convert:

- Because "Install Mac OS X Lion.dmg" is actually an archive (in XAR format), use 7-Zip program (http ://7-zip.org/) to extract the actual setup dmg file which is located at "Install Mac OS X Lion.dmg/InstallMacOSX.pkg/InstallESD.dmg"

- With InstallESD.dmg, run in Windows Command Prompt the following command:

dmg2img -i "InstallESD.dmg" -o "Setup.iso"

to get the actual setup file in ISO format.

3. Install VMware Workstation 8 or 9 --> WHERE to find this (Just "Bing it on"/ Google it or find in your favorite ... forums) :D

4. Run VMWare Unlocker 1.1.0 (download from http ://goo.gl/oHx8k) (REMEMBER to close VMWare Workstation before):

Run "unlock-all-v110/windows/install.cmd" (see unlock-all-v110/readme.txt for more info and other options)

5. Create a new virtual machine for the Mac OS X 10.7 Lion (64 bit) with CD/DVD Settings pointing to the Setup.iso

6. Install Mac OS X 10.7 Lion inside the virtual machine (REMEMBER to format the disk with Disk Utilities during the installation)

7. Install VMWare tools using darwin.iso that came with the unlocker (Mount the darwin.iso file for the virtual machine and then in the MacOSX, go to Desktop->Finder->Preferences, check CDs, DVDs, and iPods to see the iso content on the desktop; also check Hard disks, External disks, Connected servers in order to see shared folders, USB storage disks, ...); You may need to restart or logout/login.

8. That's all.

NOTE:

1) Lastest darwin.iso with VMWare Tools can be found at

- http ://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/: browse to get "com.vmware.fusion.tools.darwin.zip.tar", extract to get darwin.iso and then mount to install

2) https ://developer.apple.com/downloads/ is the place to download Xcode (latest version, previous versions) and others for developers. Just login with a free developer account.

3) These steps are also valid for Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.

Hi

Thank you for this awesome Manual!!

But I already have it installed, the only problem I have is that I can't use Final Cut Pro which was why I downloaded the VM.

Now that I know that it won't work I'm just testing and learn about the Mac OS because I've never used it before.

Thank you !!
