ASUS M3N78-EH:

South Bridge: MCP78S similar  to MCP79 which used in MacMini 3,1 so i set smbios to Mac mini 3,1 and many devices work oob after editing dsdt

Audio : ALC883 - using patched by my hand AppleHDA

LPC : dsdt patched

smbus : dsdt patched

rtc,,ipic, hpet : dsdt patched and renamed

usb : dsdt patched , using vanilla kext, i spend a lot of time to solve sleep issues on this stuff , chines leaked data sheets help me in this

Sleep : working perfectly

Wake-On-Lan : working perfectly

all monitor and other garbage like ps/2 cleaned from dsdt

CPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ - VoodooTSCSyncAMD to solve lags

cool & quite : working via editing p-states in ssdt and using p-state changer, however i don't use them

Video: NVIDIA Geforce 9800 gt working oob , just edited dsdt

Sata: patched as intel ich6 in dsdt, mcp 79 don't work cause it completely different ahci chip from 78s

Bootloader : Clover

Ethernet : Nvidia nforce lan - works well with nforcelan kext , but no wol , so i  disabled onboard lan and bought new nic

RTL8169(SC) - slice's kext works fine

Kernel and OS version: not matter , i'm sitting on current working system from snow leopard , just changing kernel's and updating os, now i'm on 10.9.5

and using bronya's rc2 kernel based on 10.9.4 sources

So in conclusion , i just use 3 non-apple kext's : voodootscsyncamd , applertl8169ethernet, fakesmc

CPU: AMD FX-6100 3.3 GHz Six-Core

Motherboard: ASUS M5A88-M

RAM: 4+4 GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz

SATA: 1TB WD Caviar Green+ 250GB Seagate Barracuda

USB:4 Rear USB 2.0 Working + 2 Rear USB 3.0 Working

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6450 1GB DDR3 (Also a not tested integrated AMD Radeon HD 4250 which will be tested also later) + nVidia 9800GT 512MB DDR3

LAN: Working like a charm.

Audio: Working just fine. I used All in one Audio Solution 1.0.  http://www.niresh12495.com/files/file/136-all-in-one-audio-solution/

PS2: Not tested

Sleep: Can't wake up yet  :)

Used Niresh distro for Mavericks 10.9.0--> Installed with amdfx -v boot flags on 250GB HDD, used Disabler instead of NullCPU in Customize Options in installation, Set GraphicsEnabler=no, not installed audio and ethernet drivers. Used default bootloader. Im not getting stuck on the first time setup. Information will be updated when fully tested. Everything seems to work fine on first sight. I will also try to get 10.9.3

I am seeking for some help. Got a nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512MB DDR3. I replaced the 6450 Radeon with the nVidia but it won't boot. After loading [iOBluetoothHCIController][start] -- completed screen just goes black.. I can get only to boot the PC when I moved all nVidia, ATI, Intel Graphics Kexts to Backup folder. But now I get only 1024x768 no QE/CI. Ideas how to fix this?

FIX!!! When installing Niresh 10.9.0 Distro DO NOT CHOOSE any different SMBios than the default selected in the installer. Install like that and first boot should be with -f flag. Then just add -f in the boot.plist file. nVidia 9800GT 512MB DDR3 works like a charm with QE/CI. ALWAYS USE DVI PORT ON GRAPHICS CARD OR IT WON'T WORK (I am using DVI to VGA adapter-DVI is plugged in the graphics card port). Further testing will be made today by playing League Of Legends game to see how the graphics card performs. POST WILL BE UPDATED LATER. Screenshots from the nVidia 9800GT configuration down below.

attachicon.gifScreen Shot 2014-05-21 at 10.07.36 AM.png

Tests were finished. The nVidia performs really well on high-quality games (though chess still lags  :hysterical: ).

When you say you got 9800GT working, does it include the HDMI output? Dual monitor and all?

Would you please provide more details about the cards you guys have ( i.e. manufacturer, output ports layout, memory ) ?

I'm trying hard to get HDMI working on this card.

Thank you.

As far as I know, there is no CPU power management with AMD kernels… The best I've seen is min/max frequencies through the combination of nullCPUPowerManagement + recent FakeSMC from Kozlek.

With some mobos, this can apparently be managed through the BIOS, so no OS X involvement.

Oh :( it is useful , but It is big the difference between CnQ on and CnQ off?  Mavericks runs smoothly than win 8.1 , i love it... but my electric bill .....

Cool and Quiet automatically changes your cpu's voltage and multipliers on demand. For Power consumption and heat, it would be better to have it on unless you're overclocking.

cool n'quiet = frequency CPU

C1E/C6State = vcore CPU

cool n'quiet = frequency CPU

C1E/C6State = vcore CPU

Cool and Quiet does lower multipliers on demand, lowers vcore to match the lower multiplier, and can control fans. C1E does more than that. It shuts off cores and HT links for example.

Not wikipedia my friend. ;)

I already knew this, but here are a few articles directly from AMD explaining the two. Anyone who has been into heavy AMD overclocking should know the difference, and I've been doing it for years.

I know I'm late to the party, but I want to thank everyone for all their work in keeping AMD on OS X alive. Without all that effort, I would still be running SL on nawcom's legacy kernel.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 960T

Motherboard: ASUS M5A88-V EVO

- LAN Realtek 8111E: See below

- Audio codec non-standard ALC 892: Does NOT work using AppleHDA, Sort of working using VoodooHDA 2.8.4 installed to S/L/E
- Graphics on-board ATI Radeon HD 4250: Not working, neither QE/CI nor resolution

- ASMedia USB3: Flaky, but works well for the most part

- PS2: Works well using VoodooPS2Controller.kext installed to S/L/E

Boot loader: Chameleon 2.2svn r2377

Boot flags: npci=0x3000 PCIRootUID=0 fsb=200 busratio=15 (Actually, the only flag that is required is npci=0x3000. It will boot and run without the other ones. Anyone else using these boot flags should adjust the fsb and busratio values to match their own CPU.)

XFX Radeon HD 5450: Running QE/CI with GraphicsEnabler=N on both 10.9.4 (patched kexts installed to S/L/E) and 10.8.4 (patch clean copies of AMDRadeonAccelerator & ATI5000Controller extracted using Pacifist from 10.8.4 Combo Update and place in S/L/E + ATI5000Injector.kext in E/E)

Mavericks: Running 10.9.4 on kernel 13.3

- Installer: Created USB installer with Pandora's Box, manually patched with MBR patch, replaced kernel with deekay 13.3, added VoodooPS2Controller to S/L/E and org.chameleon.Boot.plist to /Extra

Mountain Lion: Running 10.8.4 on kernel 12.5 (Originally was running 12.2, but 5450 had graphics corruption that went away with new kernel)

- Installer: Created USB installer with Pandora's Box, manual MBR patch not necessary, replaced kernel with bronya 12.5, added VoodooPS2Controller to S/L/E and org.chameleon.Boot.plist to /Extra

With both Mav and ML, a lot of times the Installer will encounter an error during the install. I just erased the partition and re-ran the Installer again until it was successful. Oh, and don't forget to either delete AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext or to add NullCPUPowerManagement.kext to S/L/E as necessary to get rid of the kernel panic.

Thanks again!

One more note: For some unknown reason on ML, I was having trouble installing Flash Player using the standard installer. The installer would launch and ask for a password, but then I would get a blank window with no way to proceed. I was able to get around this by downloading the "offline" installer from the following link: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player_osx.dmg

Another update: I'm now using Mieze's kext (version 1.1.2) instead. I'm currently booting with npci=0x3000, even though her instructions say not to. Otherwise, I followed her installation instructions exactly. I will test if I can now boot w/o that bootflag later.

Update: Booting w/o npci=0x3000 causes the boot process to hang at the grey screen of death (just before loginwindow launches). So it looks like I'm stuck with it for now.

Yosemite update: Bronya is amazing. Installed Yosemite (10.10) to a separate partition using kernel rc2 (version 1), and it works ... sort of. Built the installer USB according to rockinron_1's tutorial in the Genius Bar, manually patched for MBR (Google to find the patch, ignore the tutorial's instructions because the paths have changed), installed Chameleon bootloader v2391, added "kext-dev-mode=1" and "-f" boot flags, added kext for PS2 keyboard, patched AMD5000Controller.kext to add Device ID, and it installs and runs.

There are massive problems with the graphics, and a lot of the apps don't work properly (tested Safari, iTunes, Maps). But I'm impressed that it actually runs.

I finally manage to install Montain Lion 10.8.5 on my pc:

FX-8350 16 GB RAM 1600mhz

ASUS M5A-78L-M USB3.0

NVDIA GT640 2GB DDR3

I used Niresh USB

Working:

All most all

Not working:

Sound

Booting i need a CD with Chamaleon

Graphic Card only in 1080x720 no more resolution display

Safari start to get crazy with chrome is fixed

Fans allways 100% but i think is Graphic Card Fan no PC ones...

How to install 10.8.5 in FX8350 or similar:

Boot in windows  and plug in the USB and go to /Extra and open org.chameleon.Boot.plist

And remplace all with this  one make by me:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"[]>
<plist version="1.0">

    <key>Kernel Flags</key>
    <string>root-dmg=file:///BaseSystem.dmg maxmem=3096 npci=0x2000 dmar=0</string>
  </dict>
</plist>
Save  it
Go to bios an change disk to AHCI
Boot usb and press 2 so much times untill you see something ( Clover for my doenst work at all )
Then write amdfx -v
And let it boot and follow normal installation

How to install Mavericks USB AMD version:

Download usb image tool and niresh mavericks usb version

Create a booteable usb with usbbit clicking on restore and select the dmg

Depends on USB take a long time or not

Reboot the computer enter in BIOS and put in  AHCI

This is the step i am in the moment

Thanks to everyone on InsanelyMac for making this happen!

OS: Yosemite

After replacing / rolling back AppleACPIPowerManagement, IOPCIFamily and IOUSBFamily to Mavericks versions (and deleting some unneeded kexts that relied on them and failed to load) it didn't hang at booting to GUI (experienced spinning beach ball of death on grey screen). The only issue remaing is very long boot time 3-4 minutes, didn't time it.

CPU: FX-6300

Started out with FX Yosemite kernel but some apps would crash badly (Adobe Flash installer, Steam), Bronya's RC2 kernel does the trick.

Motherboard: Asrock Extreme3 970

Onboard LAN works with Realtek81111 driver, onboard sound with VoodooHDA, npci=0x2000, SSDT from Rampagedev website.

GPU: Radeon HD7850

Both DVI and HDMI work with QE/CI. HDMI audio required messing with patched AppleHDA and specifying PCI IDs in both AppleHDAEnabler and VoodooHDA so they wouldn't clash over audio devices.

I'm using Enoch's Chameleon fork, installation media was prepared with Pandora's box 2.0 in Mountain Lion VM.

What surprised me that AppStore and iMessage worked out of the box as most people have issues with that it seems.

Thanks for all the great work that devs do and the help that's provided around here.

                                My build:

  • AMD Athlon II X3 OCed from 3.21 GHZ to 3.6x GHZ (Hoping to reach 4.00 GHZ I couldn't do up to 4.0 GHz :( I got a FX 6300 and am hoping to install yosemite on this build with it).
  • Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Motherboard
  • 1 Ballistix 4 GB 1600 MHZ DDR3 RAM Stick
  • ZOTAC GeForce GT 220 Video Card
  • OS X 10.10 Yosemite with Bronya's RC3 kernel
  • And a lot of patience
  • Oh and these boot flags "GraphicsEnabler=Yes kext-dev-mode=1 npci=0x3000"
  • Drivers/Kexts VoodooHDA for Audio, RTL81111 network kext and generic USB 3.0 kext
  • Usability status unknown: PS2 USB 3.0 HDMI (Onboard and on video card) SPDI/F Audio.

my build

Mac Os X 10.8.5

Clover v2953 bootloader

install from usb-hdd with restored BaseSystem.dmg and packages from 10.8.5 system and replaced kernel Bronya 10.8.5

AMD FX-8320@4.2GHz (Q'n'Q disabled in bios)

Asus M5A97 Pro

8GB ddr3@2133MHz

GeForce GTX480

M-Audio Revolution 7.1 with recompiled Envy24HT driver

guid hdd with mac os x, hfs+ data and win8.1 (mac os and win8.1 both boots from Clover)

Wacom Intuos 2 5"x4"

works: USB 2.0 (not compatible with sleep), USB 3.0 with GenericUSBxHCI 1.2.8.d9, video, audio, wacom

don't work: sleep (USB 2.0 ports can wake up only with patched IOUSBFamily by AnV and Slice, but this IOUSBFamily incompatible with GenericUSBxHCI), some applications

flags: -v npci=0x2000

video injection by clover works on both Official and Web (added nvda_drv=1 to flags) drivers

before installation I used my intel hack for replacing mach_kernel on usb-hdd with Mac Os X System Install partition
