Part 1: What Is A BIOS

 

The BIOS software is built into the PC, and is the first code run by a PC when powered on ('boot firmware'). When the PC starts up, the first job for the BIOS is the power-on self-test, which initializes and identifies system devices such as the CPU, RAM, video display card, keyboard and mouse, hard disk drive, optical disc drive and other hardware.

 

Part 2: What Is A Modded BIOS

 

A modded or modified BIOS is a BIOS that has been structurally modified in order to enhance the hardware compatibility with Mac OSX. Most of the times the modification affects how to the system should manage the cores and the ACPI.

 

Part 3: Modifying A BIOS

 

Preparing such a modified BIOS is usually a complex procedure. Therefore, in most of the cases it's better to ask expert modders (i.e., the person who prepares and provides the modified BIOS) to prepare a tailored BIOS for the motherboard of interest.

 

Part 3: Installing A Modded BIOS

 

The procedure for installing a modded BIOS is exactly the same as for the original BIOS updates provided by the motherboard vendor.
