I was told by a Apple support represenative that Timemachine was going to be discontinued in favor or iCoud backup.  I'm not sure this makes any sence in any way.  Is there some part of this that is correct?  Is USB backup storage or Timemachine being discontinued?  Is Apple forcing backups to the cloud?  If so, how many days will it take for me to recover my 2TB's of data from the cloud on 10mbps Cable internet.

This is incorrect. In the next cat it is thought that apple will offer a larger and more extensive iCloud storage and backup solution.
