Cool McCool Posted October 18, 2012 Share Posted October 18, 2012 Hi I just got this BYTECC brand firewire PCI card which uses the VT6306 firewire chip. It works in one PCI slot but not the other. The problem is that I need the PCI slot that it works in for my PCI 802.11n wireless card. Curiously, when I place the wireless card into the other PCI slot it doesn't work either, but the Firewire card then works. So this actually seems more like a PCI slot issue than a VT6306 issue. Any hints how to get my wireless and firewire cards working in BOTH PCI slots - or should I ask, anyone have an idea how I can get the one non-functional slot working with whatever I put in it? Any help would be appreciated. I had a Gigabyte P-35 that had the same problem, also onboard NIC would disappear sometimes. Swapped for another, same model GA-P35-DS3P mobo, still had the same problem. Turned out it was the cheap raidmax PSU I was using that had come with a case, but other than the PCI slot problem, the PSU was fine. Cool McCool Posted October 19, 2012 Author Share Posted October 19, 2012 Wow. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6. so you might be on to something. I also have an Antec Truepower New 750W (TP-750) PSU. I thought that was a good power supply. Still what you say sounds like it might be the problem. Sure wish I had another PSU that I could test with. The thing is this firewire board works under Windows XP. I haven't tried Linux. I guess I'll do that tomorrow and report back here when I'm done. Thanks for your help.
