I bought the ORICO PFU3-2P . It's working in a real MacPro 2010 very well. No need for connecting the Molex .

Got the same issue ".. improperly ejected" . Using "Jeticon" (from AppStore) you get rid of that message easily,

btw: there is no wake from sleep if you connect something to one of the ports during sleep. This works only with onboard ports.

Are you sure about the name? 'cuz I can't seem to find this software in the AppStore.

SOLVED for now, see end of this message

--------------------------------------------------------

I'm hoping for some help getting USB 3.0 working under Mt Lion on a stock Mac Pro. This is the only forum where I

have seen useful info on the topic so I am asking here first.

I just installed the PFU-2P in my Mac Pro (yes, 100% Apple, Mid 2010 3.33GHz 6 core Xeon) running 10.8.2.

Of course, it is seen by the OS which reports a driver as installed, but nothing plugged into the rear USB3 ports

(Hitachi USB 3.0 drive OR USB 3.0 Cardreader) will mount.

Now, I think my problem is that I used to use a (pos) Highpoint RocketU dual USB in Lion but after upgrading to

Mt Lion it no longer worked. I foolishly followed the recommendations of Highpoint support which included installing

several kext's that had no effect except to screw up all USB audio and some other USB features on my Mac.

I removed the highpoint card and all the "dubious" kexts that I am aware of but no improvement.

I removed the following extensions installed as suggested by HighPoint support:

CalDigitHDProDrv, HighPointOP, HighPointRR, IOUSBFamily (hacked version) & IOUSBMassStorageClass (2.6.1 legacy?)

I restored the following which I believe are the stock versions for Mt Lion:

IOUSBMassStorageClass(v3.5.0) and IOUSBFamily(v5.4.0)

I do NOT have PXHCD installed.

Of course I rebuilt caches and everything else on my system is working fine.

So, my question is how do I proceed? What is the best way to know if my card is using the Apple native driver or some

kext I have missed? I can't be the only person in this mess and I will follow up with my progress and outcome.

Many thanks in advance.

SOLUTION:

Not sure if this is going to last but the card works fine in PCI-E Slot 3, just not in slot 4. Anyone know why?

BTW my current write speeds (will post more if anyone wants):

Mac Pro 2010, OSX 10.8.2 with Orico PFU3-2P from Newegg as listed earlier in this thread

Random 1GB data transfer (12 files, largest around 350MB) from the on-board SSD boot drive

Destination Hitachi 2TB USB 3.0 disk (obviously with USB 2.0 fallback)

Using USB 2.0 : 24MB/sec

Using USB 3.0 : 122MB/sec

I hope this post is still active because i really need help.

i recently purchased the Orico PFU3-P2 from http://www.newegg.co...9SIA1DS0DV6266.

I used to have the file PXHCD.kext for my other USB 3 card which doesn't work well. I followed one of the above instructions, I deleted the .kext from S/L/E then used as suggested kext beast to rebuild cache but when i run it, it seems like it's installing an app or kext but doesn't say anything about rebuilding cache so I used Kext Utility. It said that it rebuild cache so I turned pc down and install the Orico controller card. turn on PC but i don't see any SuperSpeed USB in my System Profile??? I even plugged in the power molex. Ironically Windows 8 recognized the controller card so I know that it's working and not faulty.

I am running ML 10.8.2. Does it matter which speed of PCI-e it's plugged into? which kexts I should have or not have? depends on which motherboard? if anyone is interested, this is my mobo http://h20000.www2.h...ectID=c01324212. Maybe I did not rebuild cache properly, how should I rebuild?

can anyone please help me??? I don't want to go back to Windows just to be able to use this card. :-)

Thanx.

P.S. while doing some readings, this file AppleUSBXHCI kext keeps popping up in forums. I cannot find that file in S/L/E nor is it in S\L\E\IOUSBFamily.kext\Contents\PlugIns. Do I need that file and where can I find it?

The appleusbxhci.kext is part of the IOUSBFamily.kext- if you look into the contents of that one, you will find it.

Owise, good luck.

Manfredo

Thank you for responding.

I did manage to find the IOUSBFamily.kext (containing the appleusbxhci.kext) from my wife's MacBook Pro 10.8.2.

I copied the file over to my hackintosh 10.8.2 in S/L/E. Installed first with ###### but didn't work so i installed it again with Kext Utility and it also did not work. What was interesting was that my dual-boot windows 8 recognized that same orico usb 3 card

What did I do wrong? maybe because of my pci-e from my board is not compatible but yet, windows 8 recognized it. Maybe I did not properly rebuild cache but i thought Kext Utility did the job after installing the kext......????

what i noticed is that when I Right-click on other .kexts, i can see an option to View Package but when I do that with the new IOUSBFamily.kext I don't have that option so i was wondering if it's installed wrong.

please shed some lights on me.

thanx.

I am thankful for this necro post as this is the same card I am thinking about getting:

http://www.amazon.com/ORICO-PVU3-2O2I-Express-Internal-Connector/dp/B008717L0G/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1435535568&sr=1-2&keywords=ORICO+usb+3.0+pci+20+pin

and I was concerned about it being a different model from the one previously recommended. I also plan to make use of the internal connector and get one of the front panel adapters.

Should be nice.

I did not have to use any Dummy kext or Clover Injection.  Mine  worked OOB on my ASus X79 Sabertooth.  Was there a reason for the Dummy kext and Clover modification?
