Ok I understand that the official team of Virtualbox or VMWare just can't update their guest tools with quartz extreme and coreimage support, but why doesn't anybody do it unofficially and release the iso by other means, for example peer 2 peer applications or something?

I think this issue is beginning to last more than expected and there hasn't been a solution for years.

Because it is very complex to write. Zenith432 who has worked on an open source driver for VMware reckons there are man years of effort needed, and we don't have all the required documentation.
