Thanks

Yes I always quit any running app before shutdown or reboot.

The gray screen w/spinning throbber stays for around 30 secs before shutdown or reboot.

The HD light is off while this screen.

This issue happens more often with longer uptimes.

Thanks

Yes I quit all apps but still I get the gray screen with the spinning throbber for about 30 seconds. Then the computer shuts down (or reboots if I select it). Note that this doesn't happen always and I can't reproduce it consistently though generally it occurs more often with a longer uptime.

Also, the HD light is off while the throbber is spinning.

boot with -v argument

then you can see what the hackintosh really doing when shutting down

Many thanks,

Here's a (POS) photo I will try to take soon another with a better camera and better framing but I have little time as the text appears for little time.

There are some text that appear very briefly just before shutdown/reboot but I cannot catch it.

well I'm with the same problem with you

have you installed certain apps to let you write ntfs format disk?

Many thanks.

No I don't have any (of which I know), I have those currently installed:

VMware Fusion 5 with two Windows XP VMs and one Ubuntu.

Opera Browser

Firefox Browser

Android SDK.

Plus I have two partitions: one Windows 8 in NTFS + data in FAT32.

I suspect VMware Fusion so maybe I will uninstall it temporarily and see if it happens again, do you have it installed?

OK,

In my case, this seem to be related to *cough* VMware Fusion as removed it and didn't happened anymore for the time being. Also it always happen if I open it.

Are your partitions all ntfs except the Mac OS X partition ?

Many thanks.

No, only the Windows one.

I have currently three partitions: OSX, Windows 8 (NTFS), and data (FAT32).

I've an Exfat format partition

After I repair it in disk utility, it's way faster than before

Many thanks!

In my case, I've repaired my data partition (FAT32) let's see if it's fixed now, it is faster so far :)

for I always boot with -v flag, so I'm able to know what's going on in the background when booting or shutting down

that's really the method to solve the problem

as soon as I applied this method, it turns out to be rather fast.

In my case I got at shutdown something about launchd and appleevents but nothing about Vmware, this, so far didn't happened since removing vmware fusion, I will reinstall again and see if this repeats.

If possible, paste your log and tell me your results.

Many thanks.

I've reinstalled and happened again, I don't know if this was a coincidence.

Here the log

[/code]

Try PD, it's a real nice virtual machine

Maybe it's another way to solve your problem

PD can use your windows directly if you've windows installed in your drive
