Guitarbene Posted August 27, 2012 Share Posted August 27, 2012 Hi, i just installed 10.8 on my hackintosh... until now i had a fully working 10.7... since i installed 10.8 everything related to MIDI doesn't work anymore... when i open the Audio-MIDI-Setup the MIDI-Window just produces "Loading" and freezes then (only Force-Quit possible)... also when i try to start Logic it freezes on the Loading Screen when the info says: Checking Midi Drivers As this problem started with the installation of 10.8 i suppose the problem is in the installation but i have no clue where.... I don't think the MIDI-Drivers are causing that problem as the only installed driver is the SaffirePro14 Midi Driver from my interface (that is not known to cause problems)... what further info do you need to help me? i'll be happy to provide it! VirtualGuitarist Posted August 27, 2012 Share Posted August 27, 2012 Hi, When you ask question like that, IMHO you should detail your config: - What is your mainboard? - How is your Saffire pro 14 connected? Do you have a pci(e) firewire card or is it connected directly to your mainboard? - Have you updated recently your Focusrite driver (Saffire Mix Control)? Sometimes, raising the firewire driver latency (in Saffire mix control, click on "Settings..." -> "Firewire driver latency", set it to "Long") do the trick... Guitarbene Posted August 27, 2012 Author Share Posted August 27, 2012 Ok, MBoard: Gigabyte Z68X-UD5-B3 CPU: Intel i7-2600k RAM: 16CB DDR3 Graphics: XFX HD Radeon 6870 OS: 10.8.2 My Saffire Pro 14 is connected via firewire. The Firewire (400) port is directly on my main board. I have the newest drivers. The interface itself is working fine... i can play every audio there is (flash in the internet, audio files from my computer, whatever... ) i just can't open DAWs as something fails checking the MIDI drivers... when i wait long enough Logic gives me the error report saying that CoreMIDI failed to load... I tried raising the fw-driver latency, but as i suspected nothing changed because of that... to be honest i don't think the problem lies within the saffire software or the interface itself, i think the problem lies somewhere in the Mac OS Installation... i also reinstalled 10.8 completely from scratch again, but still the same problem... VirtualGuitarist Posted August 27, 2012 Share Posted August 27, 2012 Perhaps the solution could be to edit your DSDT, i think your mainboard is not totally functional with ML, i can't help with that, you'll have to search by yourself... Another way is to hack the IOFirewire kexts, or to use the IOFirewire* kexts from Lion, if you think this is related to firewire.... Another important thing to know: MIDI is related to clock, it needs precise timing, and if your firewire interface is not fully recognized, this could leads to MIDI problems. Personally, i use an old LSI firewire PCI card, wich i found very reliable and never poses any problem, i don't trust internal mainboard chipsets (in Asus and Gigabyte, this is usually VIA chipsets, this could be important to know). But the best firewire cards recommended generally for audio are those with a Texas Instrument (TI) chipset it is recommended to choose FW400-only cards, not 400/800 mixed cards. EDIT: In fact, it's the first thing i would like to test: firewire PCI(e) cards are very cheap, you should try to connect your Saffire to a card instead of connecting it to your mboard, just to see if things work better. Guitarbene Posted August 27, 2012 Author Share Posted August 27, 2012 The problem also occcurs, when i don't have any interface connected at all and no drivers installed for the interface, so i guess the interface is not the problem here... isn't there any kind of... i don't know... system files or anything that could mess that up? i know that there is an CoreMIDI.framework for example, could the problem be in that? or somewhere else like that? VirtualGuitarist Posted August 27, 2012 Share Posted August 27, 2012 I haven't enough knowledge to really bring you an answer, but this sounds like if your mainboard is not fully recognized by ML. If i were you, i would search for a DSDT specially crafted for my mobo. EDIT: You should also read this topic, as it's directly related to gigabyte and ML. UPDATE: This topic is for you, it is for Lion but there's useful files to download, including a dsdt for your mainboard! the dsdt.aml file have to be put in the /Extra folder. try it, we never know... Guitarbene Posted August 28, 2012 Author Share Posted August 28, 2012 alright the DSDT solution doesn't work at all, it's just messing my whole system up pretty much ^^... i'll try reinstalling 10.8 as recommended in the first link you send me in the next couple of days... for today i'm just going to downgrade to 10.7 again, cause i'm having a client the next couple of days, so Logic should work then ... as soon as i found the time to update to 10.8 again I'll update this thread if it worked... cheers and thanks for your good help! VirtualGuitarist Posted August 28, 2012 Share Posted August 28, 2012 Personnally i have problems with ML too, it seems that this version is a nightmare not only for osx86 users but also for regular mac users....! Though in the Lion Topic i've indicated to you, it is precised that you must have the same bios version as the user who posted this dsdt, there is a link in the first post where you can download the right firmware version. But i think as you that the problem is deeper than that... There is also some problems with last versions of Chameleon bootloader, some users have reported that older versions work better with ML...
