Is it me or is it getting easier to Hack-the-tosh?

I noticed that GM of ML had been seeded. I thought this would be a good chance to take a look at getting it set up on my EP45-DS3R that has run Leopard through Lion very well.

So I sit down, download the ISO, look at a couple of guides on how to make a USB stick and I set off, expecting major problems and giving up after a couple of hours.

Well, 3 hours later, I am in Mountain Lion, with sound, graphics, network all working.

For networking I copied RealtekRTL81xx kext from Lion - Network up and running

For Sound I found a file on OSX86 where someone had patched all the ALC audio AppleHDA files.

I litterally just copied my Extra folder to the new drive, instaled Chameleon and thats it. It boots fine, shuts down fine, not sure about Sleep but I never used that anyway.

Just installed a couple of bits of software expecting problems as I read someone saying that not a lot of stuff is ML ready yet? CS5.5 suit installed fine....

So yeah - is it getting easier to Hackintosh?

No it's just you......getting better at doing it after so many times installing, and knowing OSX and your hardware inside and out by now :) but it hasn't got any harder

Thats the thing though - I am terrible when it comes to things like this. Yes I know computers and how to work them and fix problems and junk, but when it comes to all the kext and DSDT and stuff like that, that goes right over my head. Yes I have improved since first starting Hackintoshing but I am just so surprised that it was this simple to get it running. Its like I am waiting for something to go {censored} up.

in fact, if you have a configuration that was very stable under lion, it should also be under mountain lion too ! ;)

my p5kpl-am is very stable under SL, Lion and ML ! :D and I have the same impression as you ! ;)

I'm sure {censored} up can be accomplished if you try hard enough :) Fixing problems and junk, or knowing that kexts and DSDT's even exist, already puts you head and shoulders above where you were when you first installed Leopard. What has changed is that there are more tutorials like the ones you read, and more resources available to help find what your looking for, and since your here, you also now know WHERE to look :)

I think the comparability list and the user contribution to the hackintosh scene has made it a more pleasurable and easierto get hack away at your system. For me, things have come a long way from Leopard days where I'd have to read line by line the EULA and everything I installed back then. Nowdays you can literally restore the install image to a USB, slap a cham bootloader on there and boot up the installer, and install away then troll your parents while the system does its thing.

I'm actually more worried about things working too good, makes me feel like I didn't try that hard when I installed OS X the last time around.

Apart from the graphics card I'm running the same hardware I had when I installed 10.5 a few years back. Now it's running 10.8 and it couldn't be easier. Chameleon and FakeSMC really make it easy to get a running system up. Audio still takes the most work if you need to hack at AppleHDA. But if you're lazy there's VoodooHDA.

It sure is, I bought this Z77 board especially for the more vanilla install and it works out fine with ML too.

FakeSMC, network kext, a bootloader and plists is all I needed to run everything OOTB.

It sure is fast, especially on an SSD.

Yes! Since SL basically brought in the need for most people to run a dsdt, at the same time the /Extra folder came in with attention to an smbios and a boot.plist. Since then nothing has changed really, just gotten streamlined. So SL, Lion, and ML all should work if you have that stuff down since SL.

Lion did bring in the app installation method, which means creating a bootable usb in a different way, but that hasn't changed in ML. It's easy and works just as well.

EP45-DS3L Still kicking!
