Looping kext loading while booting.

Hello everyone,

I'm having a strange behavior here :

1) prepared USB HD with John Cash method.

2) Installed ML without problems.

3) After the finalize command and reboot, I canno't boot on the ML partition.

4) I copy DSDT to ML partition and boot form USB HD telling it to boot the ML disk.

5) I get into ML for the first time (everything work good inside of it, besides iCloud and stuff).

6) I install some kexts and stuff.

Here comes the strange part :

7) When I reboot, it seems to cycle kexts two times.

8) After that I get an error telling me next mount fsk will be executed...

hfs_swap_BTNode : invalide node kind (-81)

hfs: node 1983 fileID=4 Volume...

0 [Level 3] [ReadUID 0] [Facility com.apple.system.fs] [Errtype FS] [MountPt]

hfs: Runtime corruption detected on Machintosh, fsck will be forced on next mount

9) Screen starts to loop with error message to no end...

After getting this error, if I try to boot again from the USB HD to boot the ML partition, I get the same error

Has anyone experienced this and found a solution ? My Hardware config is the following :

Mobo : GA-X58A-UD5

RAM : 24Gb

GFX : Quadro 5000 (working like a charm)

Lion was working flawlessly, so I do not understand what is going on.

Thank you in advance,

A.

My understanding is when you get into a reboot loop, it's cause by some sort of kernel panic. And based on the error message, you some how corrupted the ML installation/bootloader. Or just for sanity check, maybe verify your hard drive didn't go bad.

I recommand you do things one step at a time. For example, it sounds like you have done hackintosh before and probably have some existing kext. I would not rush to install them yet. My experiences is that installing some kext might help you, some might not do anything, but others will cause more harm than good. So try to make changes only if you have to.

  • First Use John's method, install ML with minimal kext and DSDT if your board needs one, forget about sound, network, or even graphics (as long as the basic graphics works).
  • After install ML and reboot, install the bootloader through ./finalize. Note that by default John's script installs some CMOS fix and audio kext. You may or may not need them. If you are unsure, I would comment out these parts in the finalize script and not install them.
  • After another reboot (without the usb drive), you should see the bootloader startup options, and hopefully boot into the new ML. That way you have a good starting point.

I would avoid any tools that does one click automatic install of some kext. Make backups of the original kext and copy/edit/replace them manually. Good luck.

Here are my findings :

- GeneratePStates and GenerateCStates causes trouble, so I removed them.

- GraphicsEnabler = Yes causes trouble too, so I must boot with the "No" option.

Now the weird part :

I booted fine, everything working besides audio, now when I boot, I get a black screen... :-/

EDIT :

Now I get something on the screen with GraphicsMode = 1920x1200x32 !

So Hurray !!!! but does this mean that my computer without PStates or CStates is running hotter or slower ?

EDIT 2 :

Tryed to install NEC USB3 and AppleHDA Patched kext, everything is black again... will remove and report back.

EDIT 3 :

It seems that the real problem was PCIRootUID, setted that to 1 and things are working (even graphicsenabler), still strange behaviors with P States and C States... every boots very very slow. Again, more testing and repoting back.

Thanks for the info
