Sotirios Papakonstantinou Posted June 28, 2012 Share Posted June 28, 2012 Hello! Initially I thought Lion can only be installed on Intel Core 2 Duo or higher CPU. When I saw on the internet (including this forum) that it is possible in Atom, I tried to install it on my Intel D945GCFL2 mini-ITX motherboard which has an Intel Atom 330 1.6GHz CPU, Intel GMA 950 graphics card and 2GB DDR2 RAM. I used iATKOS L2 DVD-ROM to install version 10.7.2. After many attempts which mostly failed because of making the wrong selections in "customize", I finally managed to install it successfully, well almost, that's why I'm here right now... Of course I use the Atom kernel, otherwise it would stop very early at the booting process. I also selected 32-bit boot just to play safe and since I believe mosts kexts are 32-bit anyway. If I allow it to boot automatically, after a while I see the gray screen with the apple logo and the "please wait gear" is spinning for some time gradually slowing and then nothing happens. The disks seems active (the led shows for some seconds, then stops, then shows again) but never finishes loading. If I use -v to enable verbose mode I see a lot of stuff loading and finally it attempts to enter graphics mode. I then have a black screen with a white square at the top left and the mouse cursor shows for 1-2 seconds and then dissapears. Then it shows again for 1-2 seconds and again dissapears and it never finishes loading to show the desktop. However, if I use the -x to boot in safe mode, the desktop loads perfectly and I can connect to the internet and see the network. Audio is not working, screen resolution is at 1024x768x32 and cannot be changed and OpenGL screensaver is not working. I guess this is because I am in safe mode. I suspect that there is some kexts causing the problem, maybe I have to install Intel GMA 950 or similar. How I can see what it the problem and troubleshoot it? Is there something like system log, as in Windows? Is there any way I can save the verbose output to a file, so I can handle it to you to diagnose? I haven't used DSDT patcher yet, do I need it or I would risk screwing Lion? By the way, I have two printers. A Konica-Minolta 1600W which works with the 1680MF (or 1690MF) printer drivers, and a Konica-Minolta 1350W. Does anyone knows which driver I can use for 1350W, as Konica has only Windows drivers (it is a GDI printer, if that helps). Thank you in advance. PS: In case you were asking, yes Lion is rather slow on Atom, but I wanted to see the OS, I'm not doing serious work there. Also I suspect MS Office 2008 won't install (it needs Rosetta) but MS Office 2011 should be OK. I'll let you know... ------------------------------------ EDIT: I went to http://www.osx86.net/ and downloaded all the relevant kexts for my m/b. That is the Intel GMA 950 kext (although I didn't see any difference, maybe I didn't installed it correctly), the Realtek ALC662 audio kext etc and I installed them with Kext Helper 0.7b (yes, it works on Lion). After reboot I could load Lion automatically without any boot parameters and everything worked OK, except for the PS/2 keyboard and mouse. With the original kext from iATKOS L2 DVD-ROM (chosen upon installation) I had the PS/2 keyboard working but not my PS/2 mouse, so I had to use a USB mouse. I then thought I would fix it with a kext, but now none works, I have to use USB. I will try some other kext to fix it. I also googled "konica 1350w mac" and I found a workaround and it worked too! Yes, MS Office 2011, Adobe Acrobat X Suite work fine on Lion. Basically all software (and drivers) for Intel Macs should work since it is backwards compatible with Snow Leopard and Leopard. Only software for PowerPC Macs won't work because there is no Rosetta in Lion. (any third party workaround?)
