jogimotion
Hello everyone I am a colorist and editor. And for quite some time I was trying to build a hackintosh for davinci resolve. I am writing from Bangladesh and in our country we dont get much high end hardwares as ppl dont buy them much. but recently I have bought some harwares which I think are powerful but I am not sure if I can set them up for davinci resolve. It would be a great help if anyone can advice me in any way if i can make them workable. I have given the list of my hardware below. I would be really greatful if anyone can give me a quick reply as I need to work on a project. Motherboard: Gigabyte G1 assasin 2 Processor : Intel Core i7 3820 3.60 GHz ( 3rd generation ) 2 Graphic cards: 1) Asus nvidia gtx 570 - 1.2 GB 2) Asus nvidia gtx 570 - 1.2 GB ( should I do 3 way SLI for best performence ? ) Processor cooling: Thermalteke Frio Advanced Power supply: Gigabyte Sumo power 1200 w Ram: 16 GB I dont have any Black Magic card as its not available in our country. Above hardwares are the best I could buy in our country at this moment. So can you pls brother tell if its possible to make it hackintosh and run resolve and how I can do it. with regards Shamsul Arefin
Gringo Vermelho
Not familiar with your hardware, but OS X does not support SLI in any shape or form.
eep357
Well you got just about the highest end mother board available in any country at the moment, but at this time socket 2011 and hackintosh don't mix. It might be possible, but you not going to find a guide on how to do it and have to rely on your own hacking skills and experience, if you've never built a hackintosh before, then just wait. Eventually it will be possible, but not today. That said if your going to be running an application that can cost as much as a new BMW ($30,000.00 for full version with control interface) I think a real MacPro would be a worth while investment, last thing you would want to worry about is some buggy hacked kext crashing your system while you work. Hackintosh is for fun, if you depend on a Mac for a living, get a Mac. P.S. Check these things before you buy hardware!
jogimotion
thanks gringo for your quick reply......well if Osx doesnt support SLI than can it utilize the power of 2 graphic cards as Da-vinci uses. Or is there anyway to use this software with one gtx 570 ? If you have any thoughts on this than can u pls shed some light regarding this software or how it can be worked out with the hardwares I have bought.. thanks

I have build a hackintosh which I am using now is giving me good service. Thats why I tought to build another one for FCP and davinci use. But it seems I am always failing to get davinci work. I am not sure if I doing anything wrong. anyway..I am going thru all forums to find a solution. Just being curious.......does Pc graphic cards work on Mac pro ? is there a way to make one of my asus gtx 570 which is a pc version work on Mac pro ? thanks
eep357
For any PC gfx card on real mac pro assistance, go to netkas site, that's kinda his specialty. 580 should work out the box on real mac, so I'm pretty sure you can get the 570 working too
peposo
Hello Jogimotion, Im currently also building a hackintosh to use with Davinci Resolve. As of yet I have succeeded, but only with one GFX card in my system. However Resolve works pretty good with that. I can play HD footage in realtime with 7 100% blur nodes on it. Not bad. My motherboard is an Asus p9x79 deluxe, x79 chipset, socket 2011. I believe you also have socket 2011, right? Processor is i7 3930K. I have 16 GB ram installed. My GFX card is a gtx 560 ti 2GB. The hardest part of the process was getting the GFX card to work well. It requires some searching, experimenting etc. Unfortunately I haven't tried a second card, but that might happen in the near future. If you need any help, just ask me! Good luck! And keep posting your progress so we can learn from eachother! Cheers, Peposo
jogimotion
thanks peposo for your reply, Mine is also socket 2011 with x79 chipset. see your post was a reliefe. Now I am hopeful to make it work.......on this strugle I have bought so many graphic cards.....now I have one Gtx 570, two gtx 560, one gtx 560ti 2GB, gts 470..... but still I couldnt get davinci to work. last time I installed..it didnt show any user database..so I couldnt get in. But other than that I am facing another problem, which is with FCP x and its crashing again and again in my Lion osx....so I thought of getting back to Snow leopard. I used tonymac instructions and everything went well. But after full installation when it was booting for the first time it restarted from the white waiting screen. Now it keeps on restarting from that point and havent seen the desktop yet. I have no idea whats going...can you advice me on what could be the problem. thanks Sadi
peposo
Hi Jogimotion I dont think its a good idea to start installing older os. Just use Lion! It will work, trust me... The problem your having are having to do with your graphics card, which is the hardest part of the whole installation I think. Here's a rough guide to get your GTX 560 Ti working: 1. Install Lion 10.7.4 2. Use ###### and check the 5xx combo enabler for your version of Lion. 3. edit your AGPM file. Do a search here on more details. Hint, the GTX 560 Ti device id is 1200. 4. edit your NVDAGF100Hal.kext. Search again here for more details. 5. Use Luxmark benchmark utility to see if open cl works. If not, search again here for help. Hint, I think it could require hex editing some Geforce***kext. I forgot the details. 6. Use Ugine Heaven to benchmark your open GL scores. My gtx 560 Ti scores around 58 FPS 7. After all this you could consider installing Resolve. I've had issues with the database as well. On creativecow forum you can find some help. Just go to the davinci forum and search for database. There's a guide on how to get rid of the database and install anew/good one. 8. Let me know about your progress, next time I'll answer faster! Gringo Vermelho
That's right, but please don't recommend Tonymac tools here, it's against the rules. so I thought of getting back to Snow leopard. I used tonymac instructions and everything went well. There is no driver for Geforce 5xx cards on Snow Leopard, forget it. If you use TonyMac tools, go to their forums for support.
