Tip Posted September 17, 2006 Share Posted September 17, 2006 Its the same problem as a Mac Pro or a Mac Mini connexted to an 23" dsiplay: During booting process of the Windows XP CD you here the CD working b ut you can't see anything. The Mac Pro and Mac mini can connectedt a scmaller disply just for installation and aftwerwards all seems okay. But a 24" ist a pure Mac No chance for a boot camp for Windows on it. I installed with the latest boot camp drivers (which sounds like the problem here) and everything went just fine. If it's not the Boot Camp drivers, it is likely the installation CDs for Windows. Just a thought. LOL, a bit off there, aint ya? 64bit procs are compatible with 32 bit versions of Windows, at least in their current iteration. Flyinace2000 Posted October 1, 2006 Share Posted October 1, 2006 Here, add this to the mix. The first 24" iMac i had installed windows wonderfully. (2.13ghz 7600gt w/ 2gb ram). That machine died within 48 hours though. So apple sent me a new one with the same specs. I tried to install Windows XP and the screen was black the entire time. If i plug in a DVI monitor i can see the install and everything is there. So i get windows installed and unplug the DVI monitor and reboot. I wait for it to log into windows and get an IP address. then i use Remote Desktop to see what the problem is. When there is no external monitor attached the video card is not detected under display properties and the monitor is set to 800x600 at 15bits (yes 15 which could be the problem). I can not go to "Advanced" it's grayed out. Soon as a plug in another monitor the nVidia control panel loads. The drivers "See" the other monitor but can not display anything with it. It almost seems like the problem is not video drivers but display drivers? Any ideas? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ViveLeLivre Posted October 1, 2006 Share Posted October 1, 2006 According to Apple discussion forums, the bug is independent of video card configs (7300 and 7600 machines had the same problem), so it could be the display drivers (or maybe the system bus?)... BTW, which XP distribution did you try? I have the same exact configuration (2.16, 7600GT/256, 2gb). I'll try installing in the next couple of days and let you know how it goes. Flyinace2000 Posted October 2, 2006 Share Posted October 2, 2006 I am trying some new things. I am creating a new nLite slipstream install CD. I am intergrating the Apple Drivers into the install. The bootcamp drivers include ATI and intel for the other macs (smaller iMacs and mac minis) so i removed those drivers and just left the Nvidia drivers.. You should get the Microsoft "I agree" legal disclaimer screen at the very least. That's got to be a firmware problem. Edit: I HOPE that's a firmware problem.
