Lion install won't boot. PCI Configuration Begin, SL works 100%

I have an Asus G73JH-RBBX05 laptop. It has a Q720M 1.6ghz i7, 6gb Memory 3 x 2gig sticks (with one removed putting me at 4gig), and i have numerous hard drives.

This Laptop has a ATI 5870 1gb graphics card, which I believe is the root of the problem.

Installing SL 10.6.3 from the retail DVD would only boot if I used i Boot Chamelon v2.0-RC5 r748, build date: 2011-03-01 14:16:29.

The latest i Boot wouldn't ever launch setup, i believe it would hang at PCI Configuration Begin. Using the 10.6.6 retail dvd wouldn't launch with this version of i Boot, nor would it launch with the latest.

The only configuration I was able to get the launcher/installer for Snow Leopard to launch was the i Boot Chamelon v2.0-RC5 r748, with 10.6.3, then I could upgrade that using the combo update. After updating using the combo update to 10.6.6, 10.6.7, or 10.6.8, it would hang at the PCI Configuration Begin until i installed Chameleon 2.0 RC5 r748 ATI Experimental, from ##### 3.3.0

The latest version of ##### 3.10.1 does not have this option, and the boot loaders on it will not boot my system.

All of that background leads to my problem.

I can't get the installer for Lion to start. I purchased Lion off the app store, created the ##### drive no problems. Reboot using the usb drive, select it, -v and it hangs at PCI configuration begin. =[

I tried booting off the i Boot disc then selecting the usb thumb drive, I've tried 'GraphicsEnabler=No' I've tried npci=0x2000, i've tried -x, -s, -f, -F, i've tried all of them at the same time... PCIRootUID-1, =0, ect. I've replaced Kext on the thumb drive, with different ones.

I'm not sure where else to go. There are threads of people with this system that have lion working, but I am stuck.

I have a working SL 10.6.8 HDD, a Windows 7 Ultimate HDD, and a spare HDD that I can do anything I want with, plus a USB External that my SL 10.6.8 is Carbon Copy Cloned, so I'm not worried about having to restart, and I can access/do anything someone requests.

Thanks for reading my book.

I suggest you forget the 'beast' and try another way. In the Tutorials section there is a long thread by DigitalDreamer for installation on Gigabyte boards. He has developed a great script for installing beginning with Leopard through MountainLion. Go to the first page of his thread, read carefully the first post in the thread and download his latest script. The current script will help install Lion and ML with kexts for those two OSes, however if you need different kexts for your particular MB they can easily be copied to the kext folders to be loaded by his script. The script will also create a bootable USB from your Lion dmg file. The Chameleon boot version included in his script will boot SL, Lion and ML and should work with your video card.

Try his script and you should come to a bootable Lion.

I'll go check it out. Thanks for taking time to reply to me.

wrong title:

the PCI configuration begin is not the cause of the NOT intallation/boot

solve it ..by searching the IOPCIfamily V2 in that forum (IATKOS DVD distributions also have inside)

this not replace the vanila one.. only add the ECHO screen for the verbose boot:

but.. after that.. you will see the verbose log.. and comprehend WHY the boot crashes or hangs.

if you cannot do that but you desire to see because the boot fails.. attach the HDD into another Hack.. and read the /var/log/kernel.. you'll see all the rows AFTER the PCI Configuration begin.. that the screen never want to show!

I will check the logs. the kernel.log file is empty. I'll dig around more, do i have to have the IOPCIfamily V2 to get the text to show int he kernel.log?

Thanks for taking time to help me.

I replaced the original IOPCIFamily.ketx with the v2 (on the jump drive) as you said, but I don't see any echo'ing on the screen, and booting off my other hdd into 10.6.8, opening the jump drive (that I'm trying to install from) and looking at var/log/kernel it's empty.

What am I doing wrong here? I love the solution you've guided me towards, seeing what's actually locking the pci configuration begin will let me know where to focus.

At the boot prompt, press a key and type:

npci=0x2000

If that doesn't work, try npci=0x3000. If still no go, try adding PCIRootUID=1 before the npci flag.

I've done all of those unfortunately none worked.

I am 100% stuck. I've tried every version of ######, rBoot, ######, digital_dreamer usb disk creator... every boot option i could think of, npci=0x2000, npci=0x3000, PCIRootUID=0, PCIRootUID=1, ayt_init.kext, maxmem=4096, maxmem=2048, -x,-f,-F,-S....

I'm open to suggestions, like I said before, only the Chameleon with "ATI Expermental" allowed 10.6.8 SL to boot.... but when I install that boot loader on my ###### drive, even booting with npci=0x2000 when it starts to load the apple installer the computer hard resets at the exact moment it switches from bootloader to apple installer.

Are you booting from mach_kernel?

I'm not really sure what that means. Explain more and I'll answer.

I purchased and downloaded Lion from the app store on my working SL 10.6.8. I created ###### discs off of that purchase, as well as digital dreamer jump drives. I also burned an ISO file off that to try using my cd rom drive.

So i've tried the above methods with i boot, rboot, #####, digital dreamer hackinstaller... I'm not sure what the mach_kernel is.

Did you copy the two Evilxxxx.kexts from the PCIxxxfix folder in DDs installer into the Extra/Extensions folder of the USB install drive created by his script and try booting with that. On that USB stick you should also have Simbios and Org.Chameleon.boot.plist files in the Extra folder. There are sample Simbios and boot.plist files in the "plistxxxx" folder in DDs package which you can use if those are not there on the USB.

I have not tried that, I will do that tonight and post my results. Thanks for the suggestion to try.

mach_kernel is the default kernel in OS X. If you are not running a patched kernel (legacy_kernel etc) then you are running mach_kernel. If you open up /Extra/org.chameleon.boot.plist (or /Extra/com.apple.boot.plist) and look for Kernel below it you should see a kernel name in between and .

The solution was to install EvilAppleACPIPLatform.kext and EvilIOPCIFamily.kext plus PlatformUUID.kext in the E/E folder of the thumb drive.

I'm making a guide on how to install both SL and Lion on my version of the G73JH, as it seems i had a lot more trouble than others.
