If there's one product that's hotly anticipated in the next 12 months, it's got to be the forthcoming Apple TV set.

Samsung and other leading brands of LCD TVs have been peddling their smart TVs, yet Apple's remained largely hush on the subject, delivering subtle updates to their set-top box solution, the Apple TV.

New ramblings emerging from analyst Peter Misek at Jefferies sees increased speculation after he went on record to state that Apple's smart TV sets are "far more than a TV. It is a display, gaming center, media hub, computer, home automator, etc."

It's previously been reported that the smart TV from Apple will be available in 3 sizes, ranging from 32" to 55", and now Misek's declaring that the average sale price will be $1,250, making it affordable for mass consumption.

Misek also said that he believes specialty components in China have begun to ship to Apple's suppliers, albeit in "small quantities".

The Apple TV sets, or "iPanel", is expected to be released at the end of this year. Get your credit cards ready, folks.

Maybe the key to winning the mind and heart of the techies and the affluent would be the undisputed quality of the panel, such as one being cooked up by Toshiba, to take away the reign of the likes of Samsung. Otherwise, a $99 AppleTV would suffice if contents are what consumers are after.

Can anyone explain to me what the deal is with this iPanel? I mean with a Samsung TV I already get access to Netflix and allegedly I can stream music to the TV. I use my xbox if I want to stream music. My Samsung has USB ports and I can connect a USB stick or USB hard drive to it and watch just about any video file. Seriously I have watched .MKV and even a friend's .TS file. No need to convert or mess with handbrake. Apple TV sucks because it doesn't play a lot of file formats.

nobody knows what the deal is except maybe a few Apple employees sworn to secrecy with the threat of castration if they talk. And it's that secrecy which makes people care and speculate about something they know nothing about. I think it will dispense m&m's and tell me what to watch, cause it knows better than I do. So there will be no way to change the channel, cause you would just pick the wrong one ruining the user experience.
