I have searched and searched, and installed numerous kexts, but still no luck in getting this wireless working. laptop is a acer 5750

it is a atheros AR5B97. I have read others have got it working but when i try the kext they used, it is still showing no network devices!

is there something i have to do to enable it?

also, it might be because when i install + repair permissions/cache, then restart.. it always fails + shows the grey box "you need to restart your computer" etc.

im getting close to 100% working lion install. just a couple of things left! someone with some knowledge come through with some info!!

not working list

wifi atheros ar5b97

battery icon showing no battry picture.

no sound

no brightness control

no multigestures on mousepad

KP when shutting down! banghead.gif

all info appreciated! when i get it to 100% i ca add it to the wiki as fully workign and help others

Get familiar with http://www.osx86.net which is a good source of drivers.

Try this for your wireless: http://www.osx86.net/view/2278-atheros_5b97-9287_kext.html

Find Voodoo Battery for your battery icon.

Find VoodooHDA.kext for sound. Be sure to move the existing AppleHDA.kext or they will conflict.

Look up PS Controllers for gestures.

Maybe EvoReboot will help with the KP on shutdown problems.

will try those out soon thanks, getting abit confused with all the different solutions i keep reading about.

also, i installed evoreboot through mltibeast from t-macs site. it was around that time that it started doing the KP on shutdown. ill try again though

Are you using some utility to help you install the kexts so that the permissions are correct like Kext Helper b7 or Kext Wizard? Did you try booting with flag -f to ensure the new kext was being loaded into the system?

Run the System Info utility to get the vendor id and device id of your wireless device. That way we can be sure the wifi kext is set up for your wifi: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=219584

i have booted using -f

i do not get full resolution

usb works

can change trackpad settings and use 2 finger scrolling

still no ethernet or wifi

still getting kp on shutdown

i have managed to get on the internet by tethering my mobile

when i boot back to normal with no flags i have full resolution but usb/trackpad/ethernet/wifi still don't work!

The identifier for your wireless was in that wireless kext you previously installed. So it should have worked. Do you have a wi-fi power switch on your computer? These can cause problems because they leave the power to the wifi off during boot and therefore the card does not get detected and therefore loaded.

For your ethernet, try this kext: http://www.osx86.net/view/1911-aspire_5750_broadcom_bcm57785.html

hmm.. i have a fn key on the keyboard which can turn it on or off, but not a physical switch. ill try that for ethernet but could really use the wi-fi to work. might try a fresh install

what could be stopping it form working?!? iv tried about 4 different kexts now with no luck. but the first install of lion i did last week, before i f*cked it up, i had wifi + ethernet working! so they are compatible!

usb seems to be working now.

i keep reading about a dsdt. maybe i should make one of those?!
