The name works against it because it's not for scientists; rather it's maintained by science organizations. Let's kick the tires on the latest release and see what makes it special. fos Posted March 25, 2012 Share Posted March 25, 2012 Scientific Linux is more than just a Red Hat clone. It is targeted at scientific communities. It comes pre-loaded with a number of math, statistics, and engineering applications that CentOS and other RH clones do not install by default. SL's developer/maintainer organization is more substantial than CentOS, at least in recent times. The competition is good, if nothing else, SL is a fall back for CentOS.
