-108 error upon opening files from NTFS volumes

This is a bit of a weird one. When I attempt to open files from an NTFS volume, finder claims it cannot launch the application and won't open the file. This occurs with any file type and still occurs even selecting an application from the "Open With..." menu. It occurs with any NTFS volume I've tried it on (an external HDD, another partition on the internal disk it's installed on being two examples), but never occurs on exFAT or HFS+ volumes, files will open fine from these.

Files can still be opened, but instead of launching them from finder, I must use the "Open" dialog in the respective application to open the file (or use drag and drop -- this seems to work as long as it's an application window and not an icon, that doesn't seem to work). Can't seem to find an answer from Googling, wondering whether I must have missed something...

System specs (doubt these are too relevant apart from the OS tbh):

Intel Pentium G620

Gigabyte H61-D2-B3

4GB RAM

Nvidia GTX 260

Mac OS X 10.7.2 (has happened since the install which was 10.7.1 however) / iATKOS L1
