Gainward 9800GT 1024 fan speed problem

I've installed Lion using iAtkos L2 and everything is working fine, my video card was installed using NVenabler And right now it's working great with Dual display. My problem is that the video card fan speed is always on 80% and it's driving me crazy. I've searched for a solution for hours but found nothing useful.

Any help would be appreciated.

I had to add my device id into the info.plist within AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext in order to get power management working on my 480 GTX.

Open it up and search for the system definition you use, then check to see if your device id is included. If not, add it in.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't see any mentioning about my 9800GT in the info.plist. What values i need to add and where?

Also, after the job is completed, how do you access the power management for your card? can you set the fan to any % you desire ?

If you look in System Information > Graphics/Displays > Device ID, look for this value in the section for the system definition you are using.

If you can't find it under the system definition you use, just enter yours in place of what ever is there.

As an example I'll show you what I did to get my 480 GTX working.

This is the MacPro5,1 section of the info.plist, within AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext, I have entered my device ID. (I use a MacPro5,1 system definition which is why I entered it in this section)

<key>MacPro5,1</key>
<dict>
<key>Vendor10deDevice06c0</key>
<dict>
<key>Heuristic</key>
<dict>
<key>ID</key>
<integer>0</integer>
<key>IdleInterval</key>
<integer>250</integer>
<key>SensorOption</key>
<integer>1</integer>
<key>SensorSampleRate</key>
<integer>4</integer>
<key>TargetCount</key>
<integer>5</integer>
<key>Threshold_High</key>
<array>
<integer>87</integer>
<integer>87</integer>
<integer>87</integer>
<integer>100</integer>
</array>
<key>Threshold_Low</key>
<array>
<integer>0</integer>
<integer>87</integer>
<integer>87</integer>
<integer>87</integer>
</array>
</dict>
<key>LogControl</key>
<integer>0</integer>
<key>control-id</key>
<integer>18</integer>
</dict>

Look at the second key

<key>Vendor10deDevice06c0</key>

In System Profiler > Graphics/Displays > Vendor I have NVIDIA (0x10de) so I entered 10de after Vendor, and under System Profiler > Graphics/Displays > Device ID I have 0x06c0 so I entered 06c0 after Device.

Make sure you backup the kext before hand, just incase you get a panic and have to restore it in single user mode. I keep a cloned partition which I can use to fix my primary install should anything go wrong.

To answer your second question, no, you can't throttle your fans manually (that I know of). I think you can however change the High/Low Threshold integers within the info.plist if you aren't happy with it.

My fan is always that high, it's not something wrong with hackintosh but my damn card. The thing is that in Windows i can use rivetuner to lower the fan speed, i was looking for something similar in mac.

Never the less, I tried to make the changes you told me hoping i'll gain something out of it but my system is identified as MacPro3,1 but there is no MacPro3,1 in info.plist, within AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext

I'll try to change the Threshold integers. Should i just add the MacPro3,1 section in the info.plist?

(right now it's working on Dual display with native res showing all the right clock speeds)

Can i harm my install if i'll use ##### to select a new smbios.plist lets say MacPro5,1 and then i'll change the values inside in info.plist, within AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext to my video card?

Change your system definition and serial number to a MacPro4,1 or 5,1, use which ever is closest to your hardware spec.

(For me, with a Nehalm i7 920, the MacPro5,1 is the closest hardware equivalent so I use that one.)

Then enter your Vendor and Device ID into which ever section you end up using.

If in doubt, try both. Do a geek bench on each and see if it makes any difference. If it does, it'll be pretty obvious which one to use.

Make sure you backup first, just in case it panics.

System:

Gainward 9800GT GS GLH 512

ASUS PG541T-M LX

Intel Pentium DualCore e5200 @ 2.89GHZ

iAtkos L2 1.7.4

Hi, I get this error on booting: ERROR: unable to open nVidia video BIOS file /Extra/10de_0614.rom

After that the Apple Logo appears, then the screen turns black and a lot of stuff is standing there.

Then it says that i have to shut down my system and reboot it.

I edited AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext for my needs and changed

<key>Vendor10deDevice06c0</key>

to

<key>Vendor10deDevice0614</key>

then changed Device ID to MacPro5,1 (My PC was MacPro3,1 before)

What can I do ?
