Booting hangs while waiting on flash drive

I'm trying to boot off of a USB flash drive using Mald0ns guide.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=256729

When I do so the boot halts at

"rooting via boot-uuid from /chosen: <the UUID of the flash drive>"

From path: "uuid", Waiting on <dict ID="0"><key>IOProviderClass</key><string ID="1">IOResources</string><key>

IOResourceMatch</key><string ID="2">boot-uuid-media</string></dict>

and then

"Still waiting for root device" repeatedly.

Have done some browsing on the forums I've tried

explicitly setting "rd=disk0s2"

Adding the entry <key>SMUUID</key> to smbios.plist

disabling legacy usb

Does anyone have any further suggestions?

Other things I've tried tonight:

adding USBBusFix=Yes entry to org.chameleon.boot.plist

Installing the 10.7.1 version of AppleLSIFusionMPT.kext

setting rd=uuid boot-uuid=<My UUID> in the kernel flags.

adding 2065-iousbfamily.kext from osx86.net to my Extras/Extensions folder

adding uuid.kext from here: http://www.nawcom.com/osx86/Downloads/

Any more ideas anyone?

Thanks but my machine is not overclocked. I think that this message is symptomatic of a number of underlying causes.

*Edit* I also tried setting PCIRootUID=0 in the kernelflags this evening.

Does anyone have any further suggestions?

If not can anyone explain the message to me?

I've resolved this by removing the USB key from the USB 3.0 port and inserting it into one of the machine's USB 2.0 ports.

I then encounter a backtrace preceded by the "No HPETs available.." message which you can get around by installing HPETDevice.kext into Extras/Extensions

*Edit* BTW, I've backed out every other fix described in this thread. So, it really was swapping ports that did the job.
