PookyMacMan Posted November 23, 2011 Share Posted November 23, 2011 Update: I have DSDT extracted and now I do not use an EFI string for QE/CI anymore; changing one line did the trick. However, 10.6.8 has not changed as of yet. Also, now my Ethernet is broken. Now that I have wireless, it doesn't matter so much, but what do I need to change to make Ethernet work? Hello DSDT specialists! I currently have a Dell Dimension 9100 running OS X wonderfully, but I still have a couple annoying issues that I haven't been able to fix: 1. I cannot use all my audio ports (VoodooHDA) 2. I cannot update to 10.6.8 with QE/CI without getting a blue screen or a garbled screen 3. I cannot use S-Video with QE/CI (I use an EFI string to enable QE/CI) 4. OS X has some trouble recognizing two ATA DVD drives (using AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext). I have always found DSDT a little daunting, so I've never stepped into its kingdom before. First of all, can any of these issues be fixed with DSDT, and second, would someone be willing to introduce me to DSDT and how it works? Thank you all! Foxic Posted January 10, 2012 Share Posted January 10, 2012 1. You will have to change the audio layout to match your sound card's audio layout. Maybe try using AppleHDA with a DSDT edit (if possible for your sound card) 2. What graphics card do you use? Pre 10.6.8, copy S/L/E to desktop, run the combo update, restart into single user mode and copy back the kexts used for graphics from Desktop/Extensions to S/L/E 3 & 4. Doesn't using the old kexts disable the user interface changes (like the transitions from the login window to your account), though? The main thing I want to know is can I fix 10.6.8 while I'm in 10.6.8. I have another installation to copy the kexts from, but I don't want to reinstall if I can. Foxic Posted January 10, 2012 Share Posted January 10, 2012 1. Normally in your DSDT if you are using AppleHDA, if you are using voodoo (which means you are not using AppleHDA) I have no idea. I only use Voodoo as a last resort. 2. Where did you hear that?! Just use the working graphics kexts from 10.6.6/7 You will also not be able to use the app store until you fix your ethernet. I do know for sure that my sound card's PCI ID is in AppleHDA. I'll try the 10.6.7 graphics kexts. For Ethernet, I had previously been using AppleIntel8255x.kext with my ID (27dc 8086) inserted.
