VR777
Hello, Past few days i'm trying to install Mac OS X on my PC. I want to install it on my second HDD (samsung hd501 sata). I have tried different Hackintosh Distributions, but had no luck. - iAtkos s3 ver 2 - can't start installation process (hangs on apple logo... -v gave me "still waiting for root device") - http://i.imgur.com/pXLPf.jpg - iPC 10.5.6 - restarts pc when booting from cd (cant even read -v) - Kalyway 10.5.1 - the same story as iPC has - iDeneb 1.3 - bit of progress, formatted HDD to Mac OS Extended Journal Format, customized driver list (probably messed it up), installed but it wont boot. -v says "MAC Framework successfully initialized using 5242 buffer headers and 4096 cluster ID buffer headers" - iDeneb 1.6 10.5.8 Lite - gives me kernel panic at end of installation process (tried all kinds of kernels, step by step) - http://i.imgur.com/CXnNm.jpg Tried to change IDE to AHCI... no changes I read many forum posts, but solutions are different and depend on hardware... Maybe I am doing something wrong... or installing wrong fixes/drivers/kernel My pc specs Intel Q6600 Core Quad 2.4 (supports SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE3S) Motherboard - MSI P35 Neo2-FIR/FR / P35 Platinum (MS-7345) 4 GB ram - DDR2 4 x 1024 (400 mhz) HDD (one that i use for mac) - Samsung hd501lj SATA Asus DVD-RW SATA Please, help me with advice Thanks! update: i installed iDeneb 1.3 again and tried to use command cpus=1.... now i get spinning thing below apple logo (without command, it just freeze on apple logo)... but nothing happens. waited about 10 mins

VR777
Hey, Thanks for reply! So, I need to burn 2 discs? one with "10.6.3 retail" and install mac on hdd and then boot "nawcom modcd" ? or i will need to use usb stick? I am new to this method. Could you, please, explain me a bit or link to some guide?
Gringo Vermelho
No, "retail" means the 10.6.3 Snow Leopard DVD that you bought from the Apple store for ~30 dollars. You only have to burn the nawcom mod CD. (it has CD in its name because it's a CD - so, no, no USB stick) Use a CD-RW, nawcom might not work for you and there are other "universal" boot CDs out there that you can try. Boot with the CD, then swap for the DVD when prompted.
VR777
so, i boot with nawcom, then swap for the retail disc, then format hdd, install and restart, and then what? put nawcom back? will I need to use disc all the time I will start mac os? Gringo Vermelho
Once you arrive at the installer "desktop" run Disk Utility to partition and format your drive, then proceed with the install. You must boot OS X with the boot CD until you have installed Chamleon 2.1 to your hard drive and configured it to work with your hardware. Use the configuration of the boot CD for inspiration when setting up Chameleon. Kernel Extensions (drivers) are in the ram disk image, preboot.dmg. Boot CDs like nawcoms are universal, made to work on a variety of hardware. Usually these boot CDs have only the most basic kernel extensions/configuration settings that will allow OS X to install and boot. You will have to activate accelerated graphics and add drivers for at least sound and LAN yourself post-install.
VR777
i burnt mac os 10.6.3 retail on dvd (downloaded from trusted tracker... i will buy later) and tried to boot with nawcom and #####... no luck :/ 1. Nawcom gave me this: http://i.imgur.com/4Q1OZ.jpg 2. ##### gave me this: http://i.imgur.com/0VE8E.jpg with -v http://i.imgur.com/oJCRc.jpg what should i do now? Gringo Vermelho
You should connect your hard drive to ICH9, from the screenshots it looks like it's connected to the Marvell controller, that's why you're getting "still waiting for root device" (stop sign). Look in your motherboard manual to learn which SATA ports belong to which controller.
VR777
hmm, yes. hdd was connected to marvell sata. I connected to ICH9 and this is what happened: ##### - gave me "waiting for root device" error http://i.imgur.com/DKNUe.jpg After, I swapped places sata connectors of cd/dvd drive and hdd (both are connected to ICH9) i got this kernel panic http://i.imgur.com/QWlgW.jpg Nawcom - gave "waiting for root device" error http://i.imgur.com/ftf3q.jpg Noticed that errors start after finding my network adapter (realtek 8111b, built in motherboard) Also noticed, that i cant find SATA 1 and SATA 2 connectors... I see only 4 ICH9 connectors (sata 3-6) and 1 marvell. So, my hdd is SATA 5... maybe this is the problem

VR777
@akimoa tried to disable LAN in bios... no changes. I have disconnected audio card, 2nd network card, all usb cables and still get same error... @Gringo Vermelho bios -> integrated peripherals -> on-chip ATA devices -> RAID mode? There are 3 choices - IDE, RAID and AHCI. Is this the right menu?

VR777
well, im writing this message from mac lol yesterday i read one forum where one guy had the same error as me... turned out that this problem occurred because of SATA CD/DVD.... he fixed this by using IDE PATA cd/dvd (with jumper in master position). I found my old pata drive and tried to boot again... nawcom failed but ##### worked great! So, what should I do next? install chameleon? Could someone, please, guide me? thanks! also, what is the best way to make dual boot? I have win7 on separate hdd .....(26 nov) all seems to work fine... so far I found that mac won't recognize my iphone and sometimes it lags when i scroll (safari or any other app). still need to figure out how to make dual-boot properly... also, should I update to 10.6.8?
