I currently have a Toshiba Qosmio x505-q885 running snow leopard 10.6.8. The install for this was very very easy and my machine runs great with hardly any issues on the hardware or software side.

To install Snow Leopard I just used a retail snow leopard disk 10.6.3 and removed 4 kexts from the base install. After that Snow Leopard installed easily using #####. I then was able to update all the way to 10.6.8 using Apple Updater with no issues at all. The 4 kexts I had to remove from the retail DVD were (AppleFWAudio*,IOAudioFamily*,IOFireWire*,AppleMultitouchDriver*,Audio*)

I followed install instructions from this article to get snow leopard:

I recently bought OSX Lion from the App Store and followed along with Tony Macs install procedure for Lion but my machine will just run through loading the kexts and the restarts. Not sure what other things my need to be done and was hoping someone more skilled may have an idea? I've tried removing the 4 kexts that I needed to remove when I installed Snow Leopard but this did not work, the machine will just reboot or hang, I never get the installer window at all.

I've read some things about some Sandy Bridge helper ?? but not sure what this means or how to implement it....

Any advice would be appreciated!

I was able to figure out the install of Lion from Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Not sure how I missed this but I just used ##### with Lion that I purchased from the App store.

1. Download #####

2. Format your thumb drive per the instructions (Check out tony macs instructions)

3. Load ##### on to the thumb drive which then loads Lion

4. Reboot and boot from your USB thumb drive

5. Installer will start

6. Select your primary Snow Leopard harddrive

7. Install will take 35min

8. Reboot and then boot back up with the USB drive

9. Get to the Lion install menu again and then select UTILITIES at the top and go into terminal

10. Delete the kexts listed above in the /System/Library/Extensions folder

11. Reboot and now enjoy your upgraded Lion install

Update the software. Also had to use Easy Beast to get my keyboard to work. All hardware now works except for my wifi (the notorious RTL8191SE)
