Trying to install Lion via UniBeast

I haven't been in the Hackintosh scene for almost 3 years and so I have fallen out of the loop on how things work :-p even though it's much easier to get a working hackintosh since the Tiger days!

I set up the USB drive with a 80 GB internal USB hard drive enclosure.

System Setup:
Hdd 100GB WD Sata II 2.5"
4GB DDR3 RAM (I had 8GB in it but removed the other stick just in case that was causing the halt).
Asus P8P67 Rev. 3.1 Mobo
Intel i5 2500k CPU
Nvidia EVGA GTX 460 video card.

I have ACHI hard drive setup in BIOS and I am able to get to the Chimera Boot Screen. I also tried all these boot types by themselves:

Unsupported graphics GraphicsEnabler=No
Boot in Single-user mode -s
Boot in Verbose mode -v
Boot in Safe mode -x

I have attached an image that I took while in single user mode.

Thanks!

xx66stangxx,

If you are still stuck installing to a p8p67 pro you can try using the boot cd that I put together for that board (http://www.mediafire.com/?gsgt6tdd2zw70lw) if you are trying to install snow leopard or alternatively see my thread on the on p8p67 lion usb installation (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=261312) if you are trying to install lion.

You may have a few extra steps regarding the nvidia drivers post install but that should at least get you a successful installation to start from.

This may or may not help! Assuming you have AHCI and SMART enabled in the Bios did you remember to rename the USB drive to USB when you created the partition and formatted it? Not sure what the dependencies are but Tony makes a point of defining USB as the name. And according to an article on insanelymac " this error means that the OS is set to boot from a drive and partition that does not exist or your bootloader is not able to discover the partition".

I haven't posted it there yet as I'm not sure where to exactly LOL. I guess I'll do that now.

I really hope this isn't just because I have a USB HDD and I need a USB Pen drive or something. That would suck; I have no DVD drive and I have installed most of my Operating Systems using this External HDD. :)

Do let me know the results!

I decided to test the procedure using a Hard Drive instead of a USB stick (nothing should have been different - but assumption is the mother of all .....)

Using my App store copy of Lion (10.7.2) I took a 60GB 2.5" SATA Drive and partitioned it as 1 single partition using Master Boot Record and formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using USB as the name.

I rebooted - entered Bios and changed first Boot device to USB Hard Drive (quick check, did you do this?). I then rebooted and selected USB from Chimera screen and it entered Lion Install.

So it worked perfectly - I tried this on the Machine in my signature.

All I can think of is that either something has gone wrong with your creation of the USB Drive or a bios config error! I believe that the waiting for device is when the drive or partition is not being read or identified correctly (however maybe there are other scenarios I do not know about which can give the error).

I just posted again my results - looks as if USB HDD is not the issue (certainly not the one I used anyway)!

I did not do this. I don't think this should matter when it comes down to booting via priority or from a boot selector, right?

Haha. I just tested it out on mine, no difference.

I'm not sure if my drive is timing out or something. Wonder if I can change its settings in that case.

Here are my specs:

System: Asus P6T

CPU: Intel Core i7-920

Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5770

I have, no replies on that board yet. I just set my external to never sleep, so we'll see if that fixes the problem. I think it could also be the fact that I'm missing the kext for my HDD, and it's probably not booting from that drive cause it can't detect it.

Edit: No dice.

OK now I am confused!

You say you set your external to never sleep, I don't understand what you have done there! Where did you find this setting if you cannot boot?

With regards kext for hard drive - what kext? You aren't using a WD external or similar which needs kexts are you?
