hi all,

i am about to get a new macbook 2.0 ghz but i have a problem, i really want a big hard drive and paying 250 for a 120gb hard drive upgrade doesn't add up to me. now i dont mind opening up my laptop and i was wondering if replacing the hard drive is a good idea. i have searched online and see there is a 160 gb option ( HITACHI Travelstar 5K160 HTS541616J9SA00 (0A28844) 160GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 Notebook Hard Drive - OEM)

i was wondering what your thoughts and recommendations are on this, weather i should get it or just pay 250 for a 120 gb hd from apple. thanks for all the advice...

ps- any suggestions about where to get 2 gb RAM which is good and also cheap??

thanks again

replacing the hdd yourself is EASY. i slid in a Seagate Momentus 120Gb. funny thing was the 60Gb the MacBook shipped with was a Seagate Momentus too ;)

dont get the hdd from apple - there's no reason to, as you wont void any warranty replacing it yourself - plus then you'll have a 60Gb SATA drive to ebay :)

i picked up two 1Gb sticks for my macbook off ebay - brand new PNY parts, shipped directly from the People's Republic :) very cheap too - about 20% cheaper than UK prices.

now i just need the refund for my returned macbook, and for apple to announce the merombooks and i'll be set.... *sigh*
