I'm jealous of all the success stories. I'm trying to install this release and I seem to be freezing on the grey apple logo. I know that my motherboard isn't the most compatable: (P5N-D with nVidia 750i chipset) but I was hoping that any compatability isssues were fixed. Am I missing something? Is there a quick fix to this?

You need to boot with -v to show boot screen messages.....

Thank you very much for responding! I have looked over your guide and I have some issues with it. First of all, I do not have a mac, nor a functional os x installation. Therefore I am unable to use the disk utility you refer to as step one in all of the different sections.

I want to install os x on a currently NTFS formatted hard drive. Obviously it wont be NTFS after formatting it to NFS+ or whatever, but does the installation format it or do I have to find a program that will do it beforehand?

Second, you mention a boot loader that is used to run the installation, but iAtkos includes its own boot loader and to my knowledge is meant to be a one step solution to installing os x.

I have run the iAtkos installation with -v and it's getting locked on "PCI configuration begin," is this something to be expected with a 750i or is this a problem with a setting in the bios?

As for "PCI configuration begin," issue, you should read post #4 Issue 1. of my OS X Lion install guide.........

To get a functional OS X installation, use a OS X Leopard install DVD distro, or the iATKOS S3 v2 OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD distro......see my blog install guides.......

OS X naturally reads/writes FAT32 and reads NTFS volumes.........for booting OS X it should be a primary rather than a logical or extended volume........the OS X Install DVD distro should recognise the NTFS volume on booting, allowing you to format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)......

OS X Install DVD distros invariably use a Chameleon bootloader and offer bootloader options......either different Chameleon versions, or Chameleon derivatives such as the PC_EFI bootloader, or AsereBLN bootloader......

Thank you so much for your guidance. I've been able to install Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on my machine and the internet and audio are working fine. However, there are some problems and I've been unable to extract solutions from you guides.

Firstly, the display resolution is not able to exceed 1080x768 resolution. I assume this is due to a basic video driver and not a fully functional nvidia driver. I tried to install a driver from nvidia but it required 10.6.8 to be installed. Is there a way to update snow leopard or the video driver? I tried to use the software update in the OS but during the installation it went grey and said the computer needed to be restarted. When it came back up nothing had been updated.

The second problem is the SATA dvd drives I'm using. I had to connect a borrowed IDE drive to my computer in order to install the OS, and now the OS itself is incapable of mounting any cds or dvds put into the drive. Is there a fix to this? I saw something about different newer versions of .kexts being able to use the DVD drives. Could you point me in the direction of one of these?

Thanks again, I'm getting so close!

Good news on your progress...... :)

If you are using a SATA DVDRW, then use AppleNForceATA_Test.kext by MeDevil BUT it is 32bit only and you have to use maxmem=3072 if you have more than 3GB RAM installed, and you may be able to read but probably not successfully burn optical media using OS X.......

For video, read post #2 in my nForce OS X Lion (10.7) APP STORE DOWNLOAD INSTALL GUIDE carefully....

For further help, put your system details in your IM signature.........

So following your guide for the Snow Leopard installation I installed 32bit. Should I have installed 64 bit to get Lion working? Also, do I need to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.6-8? I'm at 10.6.4 right now.

Get Snow Leopard running 100% in 32bit mode and use the 10.6.8 v1.1 Combo Update to update to 10.6.8, then you can switch to running Snow Leopard in 64bit mode by simply using the following 64bit capable kexts in /Extra/Extensions:

AppleNForceATA.imk64bit.kext

EvOreboot.kext or OpenHaltRestart.kext

FakeSMC.kext

NullCPUPowerManagement.kext or Disabler.kext

and removing any 32bit-only kexts from /Extra/Extensions/ and /System/Library/Extensions/ if you have installed any non-vanilla, i.e. Apple kexts in /S/L/E/.....then confirm that everything is working OK in Snow Leopard in 64bit mode and install OS X Lion to another HDD volume, all as explained in my nForce OS X Lion (10.7) APP STORE DOWNLOAD INSTALL GUIDE........:)

Every time I try to use the update the computer goes grey and says I need to restart icon2.gif. I've tried doing it through the software updater, and I've also manually downloaded the support install file. It opens right, and begins the installation, but 2 minutes in to it it rolls down the grey screen.

My system specs are: Mobo: Asus P5N-D, CPU: Q6600 Core2Duo @ 2.4ghz, RAM: 4gb @ 800mhz, Video Card: Nvidia 8800GT, Using two SATA DVD R/W drives, NTFS Hard Drives: SATA 10k RPM 150GB WD Raptor, IDE 500GB 7400 RPM, HFS+ Hard drive: SATA 320GB 7400 RPM

I also have a USB 3.0 card in the PCI extreme 4x slot.

Have you tried installing the 10.6.8 v1.1 Combo Update after booting with -v -x, or even better still if you have two OS X systems on the PC you can boot into one OS X system in order to update the non-booted OS X system to 10.6.8......?

That worked!! thanks so much for your help. The one last thing I seem to be struggling with is getting the video card to work above the 1024x768 resolution. Truth be told I'm more than happy to use Snow Leopard, it has everything I need for now and in the future I may switch to Lion. But is it at all possible to get my video fully functional on Snow Leopard? I tried installing the driver from nvidia but it didn't seem to have any effect.

First try swapping your display connector cable to the other port on your video card.........if no difference, then go to Post #2 in my OS X Lion install guide........I recommend that you first try with GraphicsEnabler=Yes, and if you still have problems then use NVEnabler64.kext.........if still no joy, then generate an EFI string using EFIStudio v1.1 or OSx86Tools, or manually as explained.....

So I'm running into problems, switching the display port didn't work. I tried to update chamelion to RC5 and I couldn't log in to OSX anymore. Got stuck on something I couldn't find in the forums. Then I reinstalled and tried to install the new kexts to get Snow Leopard to 64 bit and it got stuck on Begin PCI Configuration. So I reinstalled again and now, it might be a faulty install, but it's constantly cycling through the system set up where it plays the intro and stayin' alive, and then goes through the steps and when it finishes, the screen goes blank and stayin' alive starts over again.

Any suggestions?

Try the following:

1. Run single user mode using the -s flag while booting i.e. type -s at the "boot:" prompt and wait for the prompt ":/ root#" to appear, then type each of the following lines, followed by Enter and then waiting for ":/ root#" to re-appear.

2. Mount the file system by typing "mount -uw /" (without quotes) at the ":/ root#" prompt.

3. Change the root password by typing "passwd root" at the ":/ root#" prompt and then typing in a new root password and retyping it again as requested.

4. Create the .AppleSetupDone file by typing

"touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone" (without quotes) at the ":/ root#" prompt

5. Boot the system by typing "exit" (without quotes) at the ":/ root#" prompt.

6. Reboot from HDD with "-v -f" and the OS X Login screen is presented; enter "root" as Name and for Password, the root password chosen previously, and the system logs you in as System Administrator.
