Just that I did a speedtest on the SSD the read speed is half of the speed when its in my 2011 MBP, and the write speed is around one third. (see attached images). qbaser Posted October 10, 2011 Author Share Posted October 10, 2011 No I haven't done trim. Ive googled a bit and see that its not possible to trim on Mac OSX. Is the thing to do, put the drive in a Windows 7 system, format it NTFS, run the Intel SSD trim tool, then put the drive back in my hack and copy the OSX Lion over to it? TH3L4UGH1NGM4N Posted October 10, 2011 Share Posted October 10, 2011 Unless the Vertex 2 doesn't support trim at all in OS X it should workout for you because on my HyperX SSD trim works fine. As for enabling it you could just try this little app attached reboot and check in system pref if it is enabled. As for the reason why you're not seeing speeds about the 280mb/s range is because of your ssd being a SATA II although your MBP supports SATA III you won't get near those speeds with your current ssd because of architecture limitations (SATA II vs SATA III). In my case, my Kingston HyperX is a SATA III SSD so I get the rated speeds of ~520 read and ~510 write give or take a few mb/s here and there. So yeah buying a sata 3 ssd will get you the real speeds you wanted from your MBP. @KariNeko for a vert 2 why are you speeds so low? Regarding to trim enabler, I had it previously but with 10.7.2 updated it got overwritten. So now I'll re apply it and see what the scores are. TH3L4UGH1NGM4N Posted October 10, 2011 Share Posted October 10, 2011 Slightly higher but still not close to the rated speeds you should at least be close to getting even with 50% of the drive left because I have a little less than 50% less left on my 120 HyperX and it still runs at the rated speeds. My suspicion though is the Sandforce controllers that OCZ use are found to be sketchy and quite unreliable in the long run which is why they compensate by making their prices lower than competitors. The funny thing is that qbaser at the start of this thread had those numbers on his hackintosh ( also very similar mobo as mine: Asus P6T-SE for him/her, Asus P6T Deluxe V2 for me ) and on his/her Macbook got a way higher score. Its not running Trim, yet its achieving the 260GBs speeds. So trim isnt a factor then? Is my Hackintosh MOBO ASUS P6Tse even capable of the same speeds as the MBP?
