Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L/GA-G41M-ES2L Install Guide

UPDATE: Per the request of some of the users on YouTube I am going to include all the kexts and other important installation information.

GA-G31M-ES2L (rev. 2.4) Download these files: G31 Kexts & Packages

GA-G41M-ES2L (rev. 1.0) Download these files: G41 Kexts & Packages

JAVA Package: Java package

Copies your motherboard's package as well as the java download you package to a flash drive so that you can plug that in to your system once Lion is installed.

All of the files I mention in the guide are zipped into the one file above. Just so everyone is aware--I did not create these files. These were made from various people who dedicate a lot of hard work to the OSx86 project and deserve the credit. I found these on kexts.com, insanelymac.com, & tonymacx86.com. Please join their sites and show your appreciation.

Install Process:

1) I used MaLd0n's guide at this thread for only installing the base system. Everything after that such as the #####, smbios, and other options I would recommend following my steps.

2) After I fully installed Lion, I needed to reboot to setup my user information.

3) Once I got past those screens, I ran 10.7.1 update which can be found here, but before rebooting after the install was finished I ran the following:

4) Run the Java package update and once that is installed run the DSDT Auto-Patcher by MaLd0n (go through the motherboard options and select the Gigabyte G31M-ES2L/G41M-ES2L [whichever one applies])

5) Place the generated DSDT.aml on your desktop

6) Run ##### 4.0.1 or greater

a. Within ##### select the following options

i. User DSDT Option

ii. 64-bit Boot Screen (GraphicsEnabler=Yes)

iii. System Utilities (Repair Permissions & Cache)

iv. Extension Migration Tool

7) Install the kexts from your specific pack that you downloaded with Kext Helper. Just drag them in and enter your password. Once it finishes, you will need to force quit it.

8) Run the package 10.6.2-AppleHDAInstaller.pkg

9) Go to /Extra on the root of your drive and copy the file org.chameleon.boot.plist to your desktop. Open that copied file (the one from the desktop) in TextEdit. Look over the following text and compare it to what you have. Edit yours so that it looks like the one in the picture.

Screen%20Shot%202011-09-20%20at%2011.40.09%20AM.png

10) Unzip the file iMac9,1 and place the file smbios.plist in the folder /Extra on the root of your drive

11) Dependent on whether or not you choose to use wifi, this may or may not be the final step.

12) Reboot!

If all went well, you should now finally be running Mac on your PC.

Note: If you want to change any of the boot options such as an time out chameleon screen, new themes, or hiding drives then please ask me here or at my blog

Thank you Inmike02, for the install guide. I successfully used it to install 10.7.1 on my old ES2L board. I have rev2.0, and everything worked except for sound (not sure why) and Ethernet. The rev2.0 board has an Atheros LAN chipset that requires a particular kext (AtherosL1cEthernet). I have USB-connected speakers anyway, so I'm not worried about on-board sound for now.

I had to hunt down a copy of dsdt auto patcher since it was not available from this site. (Google was my friend.) Sleep does not work, very upset about that, but such is life. Shutdown and restart work, as does everything else I've tried in the last day. I paired this board with an XFX Geforce 9400GT card that I got a year ago, just in case I needed a cheap and (hopefully) OSX-compatible video card. It works beautifully, with full QE/CI. Just need GraphicsEnabler=Yes in your plist file with Chimera.

The only complication came into play when I updated to 10.7.2. I tried to run #####, but the install would fail without giving me a reason. In the end what I did was redo the entire install, but instead of going to 10.7.1 first, I went straight to 10.7.2. ##### would not run properly without a reboot, so I just rebooted again from the USB stick, then ran ##### 4.0.2 following the directions here and all the other steps after that.

Just one other note, if you want to use a Chameleon boot timeout, remove the Instant Menu key from the plist file. The Timeout key is incompatible with it.

Can anyone tell me how closely related these boards are to the GA-EG41MFT-US2H

I have this board and I have it working in SL, but there's no specific info out there.

I bought it because it had onboard firewire and spdif. Presumably it is related to a similar board without those features, but I can't work out which one.

I'm about to upgrade to Lion, so I'm looking for any extra info about what my mobo needs.
